George Maxwell’s Decision George Maxwell has a company that is named Maxwell’s Plumbing Supply that has been running for 20 years. George has made an excellent effort through his own hard work, great communications within his community, and has knowledge of his trade which has helped him throughout the years. He is an African-American and is sensitive towards issues of racial diversity and his minority hiring. George faces an issue in the story which is that he has to replace his supervisor that is about to retire. He does have one person in mind which is to hire Hector as the new supervisor. The purpose of this assignment to advise George whether or not it would be wise to hire Hector. There are several advantages of hiring Hector to become a supervisor. Hector is hard working and reliable for the reason that he has made numerous suggestions that have increased the efficiency of the company. He has been with the company for 12 years, although other have been there for a longer time. Hector also has the qualities that are necessary to run the company the way a supervisor must. These are the advantages in hiring hector as a supervisor. Hector does bring with him some problems and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that there are five other employees that have been with the company longer than hector and seniority is very important in the workplace. George is worried that his employees feel slighted if one of them is not given the job to become supervisor. Another disadvantage is hector’s English, which is not as good as George would like with this problem the reason that he is hard to understand sometimes, especially with the clients and on the phone. A problem that might arise is that about 18 months ago some Filipino women would speak there language during work and convinced hector in suing George for not letting them speak their language and now nobody speaks to the women but the employees do

The second day we had came into the laboratory we had too read the Nutrient Agar plate that was the one that we had too the 3 phase isolation plate. My results were somewhat correct but I had a lot of backtracking. After that we had too read the S/D Media, which we had, too diagram and describe each of the plates that we had put in the incubator. Once they had come out of the Incubator the results that I had achieved was the MSA plate was yellow, stinky, I did have growth, there were a positive match for small colonies, and was shiny. The second one that I had achieved was on the MAC plate. The color on this specific plate was red, it had smelled rotten, there was definitely some growth on the plate the texture was shiny and was not raised. Out of these plates I had somewhat of a indication of what the specimen was since after the gram stain we had done in lab we found out that on the MSA plate we had achieved Gram positive…

Fear and compassion are two very different feelings that equally drive individuals. Many assume that fear and compassion have absolutely no relationship due to the fact that they are polar opposite emotions that people usually do not associate with each other. Even though they are two very different emotions, fear can be used to express one’s inner compassion. Fear and compassion are two of the most prevalent emotions used in regular human interaction, but unlike compassion, fear is obviously dreaded in society due to the fact that humans in general do like to face and deal with adverse conditions. Leslie Bell, in Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom, talks about women in early their twenties facing fear about their identities. Robert Thurman’s “Wisdom” speaks about how his experience of becoming a monk taught him to release his inner “self”. And Charles Siebert speaks about the relationship between humans and elephants in the “Elephant Crackup”. Through all of these stories it is clear and apparent that deep and intense fear drives and motivates individuals to become much more compassionate and understanding.…

Havelock Ellis, a British physician and psychologist once said, “Sex lies at the root of life, and we can never learn to reverence life until we know how to understand sex”. Sex is an instinct, and as humans, people’s need for sex is equal to any other instinct such as food and sleep. Sex, as a tool for reproduction, is the basis for life and if it was not for sex, humans or any other creatures would not be able to survive. For that reason, it is significant that people understand sex and its specific roles in life. The opinions about the role and significance of sex in life often contradict and differ from one person to another and from one culture to the other. Many poets and writers have become obsessed with the issue of sex and have tried to convey point of view about sex and provide knowledge and corrections of many sex issues they think are inaccurate uses of sex. Sharon Olds in “Sex without Love” and Ariel Levy in “Women and the Rise of Rauch Culture” present some serious issues that arise from people’s misusage and misunderstandings of sex. Olds’s speaker uses a subtle and convicting tone in order to show her discontentment with the way love has been disregarded, while Levy uses a sarcastic tone by which she asks for people’s common sense in order to show the ridiculousness of the idea that pornography and stripping are forms of women’s liberation. To show how the idea of sex without love has become a norm and that the society believes in the validity of such falsities, Olds uses irony and similes to describe the act of sex without love which is similar to what Levy does when she uses anecdotal evidence and examples to convey how the unusual ideas about womanhood and sexuality became a norm. Both authors show the idea of sacrificing precious values such as love and femininity for cheap prices such as having sex without love or becoming normal in the eyes of others.…
