On November 13th, we did a lab to learn about energy. The definition of Kinetic Energy is energy of movement. The definition of Gravitational Potential Energy is energy in an object due to its positioning. The question that we had to answer was whether of not we could calculate the Gravitational Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy of various objects in different locations. To do this lab we had to first weigh the given objects. For this time, we weighed : a marble, a bouncy ball, a ping-pong ball, a steely, and a foam baseball.

Each table was then given a little device to weigh the objects. We used the measurement of grams to determine each of the different balls mass. The one with the least amount of mass was the ping-pong ball. The one with the most amount of mass was the steely. Afterwards, we got large rulers and measured the distance from the table to the floor. For our table the height was 68.5 centimeters.

The next step in this Energy Lab was to figure out the Gravitational Potential Energy for each of the object. To find this we multiplied the mass of the object with the distance from the table to the floor. Our table’s equation looked like this : MASS x 68.5 = GRAVITATIONAL PROTENIAL E.
At our group the object with the most Gravitational Potential Energy was the steely. The one with the least amount of gravitational potential energy was the ping-pong ball.

After this phrase/part, we had to determine the speed of each of the objects. To figure this out, we had to put the object on the edge of the table and using a stopwatch we had to measure the amount of time it takes the ball to go and touch the floor. We repeated this phase a few times to ensure that we were correct. The next step to this lab was to find the speed for the objects. To find out the amount of speed we needed to drop every object.
