Emily Grierson- Emily is the main character of the story. She is a chore for the town, but a very hopeful character until her father died and lover left. She is now a recluse that never comes out for anything, but has her servant to do for her.
Colonel Sartoris- Colonel Sartoris is the former mayor of the land. He remitts Emily's taxes to compensate for her father's death. He dies, and this causes people to come to Emily's house to confront her for her taxes.
Tobe- Tobe is Emily's servant who helps Emily manage her house, and keep others from knowing things about Emily. He also is the the only representation of any life coming from that house.
Judge Stevens- Judge Stevens is the person who is complained to about the stench coming from Emily's house. He convinces the people …show more content…
His physical description gives him as a a big, dark, ready man, with a big voice and eyes lighter than his face. He curses at his workers, and often brings a joyful, laughing crowd.
1. In the first paragraph Emily is compared to a monument.
2. The house is said to lift its own decay.
3. Colonel Sartoris remits Emily's taxes.
4. The next generation of leaders question Emily of her taxes.
5. He describes her as a small, fat woman in black with a thin gold chain descending to her waist and vanishing into her belt, leaning on an ebony cane with a tarnished gold head. He also tells that her skeleton is small, adding to the image of her weight.
6. It had been two years since her father's death.
7. The neighbors are complaining about the stench coming from her house, but Judge Stevens tells it to be a squirrel that Tobe killed.
8. After her father's death Emily tells the visitors that her father is not dead.
9. Homer Barron begins to date Emily. He is in town with his consrtuction crew.
10.At first they were glad about the relationship, because they know that her noblesse oblige is not
