Everyone feels guilt, but the way they chose to deal with it can change their life. In the book, Red Kayak, by Priscilla Cummings, many characters are feeling some type of guilt after a three year old boy, named Ben, died. The guilt is displayed differently by each person. Some main characters dealing with guilt are Brady, Mrs. Diangelo, and Digger.…
For my written analysis, I found this beautiful painting by artist Andrew Palyanov, called Final Boat. The atmospheric perspective of this piece is haunting, demonstrating implied depth and distance despite the fog that only partially obscures the autumn setting. Vertical placement is well-represented, first with a majestic tree closest to the foreground, so close that we can see the details of each leaf and branch. Additionally, the foreground contains a small rowboat, as well as the shallows of the water where tree branches are reflected from directly above. In the middle ground are the gazebo, as well as still more trees on a spit of land that jutts out into the water to overlap the trees on the far side.…
In the book, Red Kayak, by Priscilla Cummings, there are multiple themes. A theme is the main idea or underlying meaning of a literary work and it can be directly stated or implied. Being able to understand a theme is critical to decipher an author’s message. One of the numerous themes in Red Kayak is that death is everywhere and it can be very hard to deal with. In Red Kayak, Brady along with his friends, J.T. and Digger, live in the Chesapeake bay region of Maryland. All of them have great memories together and have been friends for a long time. Soon, rich people start moving in close proximity to where Brady and his parents live. This upsets families and friends (especially Digger). When Mrs. and Mr. DiAngelo move in, Brady discovers that…
The relationship between fiction and nonfiction is very elaborate. The book, The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle deals with a family experiencing accidents each year in October and now they want to figure out why. In the book, Cara and her ex-step-brother accidentally fall in love. This tends to happen more often than we think in the world we live in. Fiction is a story that is created from your imagination but can also be inspired by true events. Nonfiction is a true story about real people and real events. But fiction reading is able to influence our ideas about real life.…
This book is about a boy named Danny Pickett and a dog named Red. Though not based on a true story and is completely fictional, including the area it took place (wintapi wilderness), it feels as if it was real. I highly suggest this book to dog lovers, for it is based mainly on dogs. The first time Danny met Red was when he told Mr. Haggin about a bull of his that was recently killed by Old Majesty, who was a legend around Wintapi.…
In Louise Erdich’s “The Red Convertible” Henry and Lyman buy a red Convertible Oldsmobile. Erdich uses the car to portray the brothers’ relationship. The car like the relationship started off good and strong, then turned rough and finally disappeared altogether.…
It is the book that doesn't fit into any category. A fiction book is all made up but the war happened and things that we read about did happen so it can’t be pure fiction. It reads most like a memoir of all things. The majority of the book is between him, his unit which acts like family and their stories about Vietnam. A memoir is a factual story but The Things They Carried, while not a factual story is based mostly on facts and it does read like a short novel. All the “chapters” read like their own individual short story but they link to each other allowing it to still be read like a novel or many small reports. The question is why would O'Brien choose to write the novel the way he…
Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possible worlds or futures. It is similar to, but differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation).…
The genre of my book is fiction. It is not real because it includes spies, the triads and even an eleven-year -old spy.…
Genre fiction, also known as popular fiction, refers to plot-driven fictional works written with the intent of fitting into a specific literary genre, in order to appeal to readers and fans already familiar with that genre. Genre fiction is generally distinguished from literary fiction. Fiction is mainly known as literature in the form of prose, especially short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people. Fiction is an out for two people: the reader, and the author. It allows the reader to escape from their reality and engulf themselves in a fantasy world. It helps to calm their worries. Or getaway from them for the time being. For the author, fiction allows them to put out their feelings by putting them into a fantastical…
We all know that a work of literature must provide more than factual accuracy or vivid physical reality. It must tell us more than we already know. A piece of literature should have some type truth (factual) behind it so then you're not reading all lies and don't get brainwashed with lies and untruthful facts. I also believe that it should have some type of physical reality because that is also a critical for the reader to distinguish reality from fantasy. If the writer can go back and forth with physical and factual and can manipulate your mind then that there alone is a powerful writer. So basically, if its "seems" too real or too "fiction" then the writer did his or her job. I think that literature appeal to all your senses. You should be able to feel like you're in the book itself and feel like your the character…
The main aim of the realist novel is to show and reflect reality as it really is. Through its credibility we perfectly know and can imagine certain situation from the plot. The most popular used metaphor of describing realist novels is ‘the mirror of reality’. Readers see reality in novels through certain conventions, namely the tools of narration, for example third person omniscient narrator, this kind of narrator is sort of God-like, all-knowing narrator. It also should be objective and invisible. Nest convention is how characters are described, namely as round characters, more complexity is shown. Also language used in novels is a specific one, there are very detailed and almost scientific descriptions it is possible to compare them to articles read in newspapers. Language of characters and narrator differs. Language of characters from middle classes is natural, colloquial, differences in social ladder are distinguishable, the language differs from written language. The narrator uses standard language of educated person. Popular setting in realist novels is for example are cities with factories and industrial places.…
Fiction allows the author to tell the story in their own words and in another way ot strategie thereby changing the main idea of the real story. Dealing with characters, non-fiction involves real people who were present but fiction only creates characters.…
