Effective Teamwork
What are the characteristics of effective teams? Personally, I believe that there can be many characteristics to effective teams but there are a few main characteristics that always need to be present. It takes active/good communication (i.e. speaking & listening), diversity (i.e. skill, gender, personalities, perspectives, cultures), understanding (i.e. different perspectives, different cultures, differences in personalities, etc.), goals (i.e. team performance, personal), and trust. Every team will be different and the goals and purpose for those teams will be different as well. Therefore, there will always be different characteristics needed for each type of team but I believe that these teams are all formed by the same foundation, which are the characteristics listed above. With these characteristics I believe that a team can be built and goals set forth can be accomplished.
How do roles, needs, and diversity affect teamwork? To begin, roles, needs, and diversity can be both beneficial and harmful to teams. Roles of members affect teamwork because it is possible to have members in positions that do not suit them. In other words, having a member that is not capable of performing the role they attained can hurt the team overall, causing further issues. But it can also be very beneficial when the right person is selected to the role that suits them because objectives will be met effectively and efficiently. Different needs of different members can start to become heavy for the team and therefore affecting the team in a negative way. It is important to establish what the team is there to do and how they are going to do it so that the members and their needs can fall into place. If an individual’s need is becoming an issue for the team, it needs to be addressed immediately so that it does not cause any further issues. Lastly, diversity is a necessity in groups because it will bring different perspectives, ideas, and strategies together that

I'm jet lagged and tired. My alarm goes off, a screeching "beep, beep, beep!" I get out of bed, turn the alarm off, and begin my routine - coffee, shower, flight suit, bag drag from the lobby to the crew bus. Once all bags are loaded onto the airplane, we head over to base operations for our crew brief. Crew brief is complete and its back to the aircraft, so I can refuel, inspect, and then take off. This is my life as a C-17A Flying Crew Chief (FCC) stationed at Travis AFB CA. You're a jack of all trades when you're an FCC. The C-17A is a large military transport aircraft. It performs strategic airlift missions, and transports troops and cargo throughout the world. When on these types of missions, I'm usually gone from one to two weeks depending on whats going on in the world. There was a mission that took us from California to South Carolina to pick up Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. We crew rested there before we started our…

The group originally chose the project on respect towards older people aimed at 15-19 year olds however, following a group discussion decided to change the project to recognising stress in carers. This was because the group felt that the carers topic was currently highlighted in the media and there was a large volume of literature available from a variety of sources. The group also felt that the respect towards elders project was quite a broad topic which could be interpreted in many different ways which may have been challenging to convey on a poster. The group preferred a poster over a leaflet as they felt it could reach a wider audience when placed anywhere rather than someone having to physically collect a leaflet. The group also thought a poster would be more eye catching, easier to read and concise for stressed busy carers who wouldn’t want to read large volumes of text. 152 words…

Throughout our educational career and work career we learn to accommodate to the requirements of working in teams. Some of us are individualist while others enjoy collaboration with teamwork. While working in a health care environment I have noticed how teams and teamwork are a necessity. The workload required to work in a hospital is too complex and demanding for an individual to do the job. So each discipline is set up in teams, and managers run the different floors/units to have a successful facility. There are two forms of team structures that are used to construct and facilitate the type of team they desire. The formal structure is the literal structure of the organization chart. It uses a hierarchical reporting relationship and work process that allows workers to report to the chain of command. The informal structure is usually referred to as the “grapevine”. It allows relationships to develop in organizations and contribute strongly to work culture. There is no set chain of command and people establish leaders on their own. Utilizing both methods of structure helps teams run through their course of action set out. Both strategies have been researched and both have a positive outlook, the type of method that is chosen is based on the individual in charge of the hospital/organization.…
