Eden Lake is a horror film, this is immediately shown by the use of the dark lighting on the poster, by having a dark lighting creates a eerie effect for the audience. If this was a comedy film or a Romance the lighting would be bright and not at all dark, this then again proves this is a horror film.
The Protagonist character of the film is on the poster, which is also the main feature that catches the eye. This is to show the audience who will be acting in the film, also the main character is a woman this may be because females are seen to be less able to defend themselves, and almost makes the film seem scarier to the female audience. She is also watching over her shoulder which makes us think something is after her and her stance seems to be very ridged so this could show the audience that she is scared of coming either behind her or coming for her which could be the blacked out silhouettes.
The four stars are made clear to see on the poster this is to make the prospective buyers more likely to buy is as they would know it has been rated to be a good film. So the audience would know what to expect when buying the film or going to watch it. Also if the film was not good they would not show the rating or it would put buyers of when looking at the poster.
In the background of the poster is a forest which seems to be over grown this may mean that it is an abandoned space which is scarier than is being an open place where lots of people are because if it was nothing bad really would be able to happen because other people would be there to witness it.
