Eco Friendly Products

Eco Friendly Products Going green is the new movement in America. Corporations are creating products that they like to call “eco friendly,” meaning they will not harm the environment. These corporations want us to believe that products such as light bulbs, cosmetics, cleaning products and even cars will help slow down the process of global warming and will help the environment. While some of these may be sufficient, some are not. Using non-toxic cleaning products is one way we can to keep our environment clean. Non toxic products can help to change the world. Eco- friendly cleaning products help because they do not contain those harmful toxins that the other cleaners contain. Toxic cleaning products contain chemicals that can cause cancer, damage hormones and cause other serious health problems (Snyder). Some of the chemicals in cleaning products today that can cause harm are sodium hypochlorite, ammonia, formaldehyde, and hydrochloric acids. These are in our toilet cleaners, bleach and even glass cleaner. After one is done cleaning with these products, what do most people do? They pour these toxins down the drain or flush them down the toilet (Snyder). Doing this is causing our public water supply to become contaminated and it is harming us in ways we will never understand. Pregnant women drink this water. When they breastfeed, it is a possibility that all these toxins will enter her body and can harm her baby (Leonard). That is a scary thought. I would never want this to happen to my child. I do not want to wake up one morning, hop in the shower and jump right back out because the chemicals in the water burn my skin. Or maybe one day I decide to drink tap instead of wasting my money on bottled water and end up in the hospital from being poisoned. The world needs to jump in and try to solve this ongoing issue. People created the problem, and they can also work together to fix it. All of these problems can be solved by switching to nontoxic products. These nontoxic products include Purex Natural Elements, Green Works Natural All-Purpose Cleaner by Clorox and Essentials 2X Concentrated by Arm & Hammer (“Green Cleaners“). Most of these products cost less than five dollars, very affordable. While these cleaners may help the environment, it only helps a small part of the problem. We need to put our focus on the big issues, like pollution from cars. The cars we produce today are killing us slowly day by day. The more we drive, the more toxins we are inhaling. These toxins are very dangerous to us. “Information for Action” states that the cars we drive are emitting carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrocarbons and many other chemicals into the air. They are reacting with the sunlight and producing ground level ozone. These things cause respiratory problems and even asthma (“Information”). “Bikes to work” says that the run off of oil and dirt and other products from the cars are polluting our water (“Bikes“). Just think about it, how does a glass of water, oil and dirt sound? Probably not too good. Well at the rate we are going, this is exactly what we will be drinking in the future. Cars are even killing our wildlife! How crazy is that? These gas filled machines are not only destroying the earth, they are also destroying civilizations (“Bikes“). Think about our future here on earth. Who wants to live in a world where wearing a face mask is mandatory because of all the poisons in the air? There are numerous ways we can change this. There is so much technology in the world, we need to use it to come up with a new type of fuel that does not contain so many toxic chemicals. We can also move into using hybrid cars. Using hybrid cars may be a great solution to our pollution problem. Many ask, what is a hybrid car anyway? Well a hybrid car is any vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power (Nice, Karim, Layton). It is a cross between a gasoline and a electric car. It uses a lot less gas and produces a lot less pollution. It can be driven up to 300 miles without refueling. This makes a lot of people happy. The benefits that are most important are the fact that hybrid cars can improve mileage and produce less pollution. What more can we ask for (Nice, Karim and Layton)? Everyone should go and trade their cars in and get a hybrid car. Even though hybrid cars still produce pollution, keep in mind that it is a lot less pollution than the gas guzzling machine you are driving now. Yes, we will now have to pay a monthly note on the car again, but look on the bright side, we will all be one step closer to helping the environment. Green products are our future. Eventually we will all be driving in hybrid cars and cleaning our homes with nontoxic cleaners. We need to stick to this plan. Doing this will slow down the process of global warming and almost keep our atmosphere more clean and less harmful to us. If we stop using harmful cleaners in our homes, there will be no pollution in our water. We will not have to worry about drinking chemicals. Pregnant women will be able to breastfeed knowing that her milk is not going to hurt their children (Leonard). Driving in the hybrid cars will produce less pollution and our environment will start to look much better than it did in the past. Remember, all we have to do is take these green products and make them a part of our every day lives. We will all be happier in the end.
