Dissappointing Experience
The Aftermath of a Disappointment Hope and expectations can sometimes lead to disappointments; but life without hope and expectations would be a life that lacks perseverance and the success of reaching goals that may seem impossible. I am a firm believer in having goals and hoping for the best out of every situation. Goals are not always reached and the best is not always the outcome; therefore, disappointment sometimes exists in my life. Still, I never let the fear of striking out, keep me from playing this game. Almost five years ago, one of best friend's dad, also the high school tennis coach, introduced me to the game of tennis. I slowly fell in love with the game. I fell in love with the manners people portrayed as they played, the elegance of the game; but more than everything, I fell in love with its competitiveness. It soon became one of my passions as I played through the summer heat or the chilliness the autumn and spring brought with them.. Last tennis season, my expectations for the season were higher than ever. I expected a winning season, along with the Sectional and Regional Championships. With my team, I accomplished the first goal. Our only loss was against Marquette High School. On the other hand, my second goal was only half accomplished. For the second year in a row, we won the Sectional Championship. We worked hard preparing all season for the Regional Championship. Although it was a close match, we played with determination and won the first round of the regional tournament against Andrean High School. The match that would determine the Regional Champions was against the other finalists, Munster High School. Matches started and ended quite rapidly. This time, our team was not victorious. We left the setting without the title of the 2013 Regional Champions. Working so hard for a goal and not reaching it can be disappointing and heartbreaking. I ended my tennis season feeling disappointed in myself and empty. When the end of my match came

She started playing tennis when she was in 3rd grade, and has been an enthusiastic player ever since. She was able to do the unthinkable and made the Varsity team her Freshman year, and even got 1st in Regionals. While she is a very important player and pretty impressive at the sport, she doesn’t plan on continuing her tennis career after high school. She said in our interview, “I don’t really think I’ll continue playing tennis. I plan on going to a college in California and probably studying Criminal Justice or something like that.”…

We had made it clear to each other that he would not go unavenged. We had enough passion to fight the world if we felt absolutely necessary and we went on through what seemed like a war that weekend. Through blood, sweat, and injury, we battled for that title. The championship match came in our grasps and tensions were high for the entire game since we didn't only want to win for us, but for our coach who had recently resigned. After a game full of devastating hits and elaborate set plays, we lost after an undefeated run of 5-0-0, but we fought to the death and left it all out on the field. No regret in our heads would ever go opposite the way we played in that title match because Coach Day had educated us all that no matter how exceptionally skilled at something you believe you are, you will never progress without putting your entire willpower to the task. Without passion, you fight for nothing. Passion is what will drive you through every hill and valley of your life. From that day onward, all I have done has been for a reason and I have strong-armed my way through thick and thin to be successful in my life and I plan to extend this through my entire college career and lifetime. I will at no time give up on what I believe is crucial, similar to being successful in that tournament for my…

In order succeeded I had to try, to really work, and while that might not be factual for every scenario, without an attempt nothing would ever be accomplished. By living in dread of the outcome of any situation, the situation is not altered. I have come to the conclusion that trying is not always about succeeding; it is about finding your passion and pursuing…

We were the champions. Skating as fast as possible, I rushed from the blue line to the net where our goalie was. Our team dog piled on top of one another and screamed with joy. Cheering and crying rang throughout the entire arena. I was elated, tears streamed down my face as I hugged my teammates. After a few seconds, our team recognized that we needed to shake hands with the other team. I understood the defeat and sadness in the opposing teams’ eyes because earlier in the year, I lost to an underdog team in the soccer section final. After the hand shaking, I was a given a medal from my coach.…

I doubt a life without expectations would be very inspiring, joyful, or satisfying. What if parents never bothered to cultivate character and disposition, never pointed out potential and talent? What if teachers did not care enough to bother critiquing work and giving feedback on ways to improve? What if friends are apathetic and not inclined to step in if one settles in a self-destructive train of thought? Yes, some might be quite overbearing, disillusion, or self-centered with their opinions, but that leads to our part in expectations. Part of living is defining our expectations and aspirations; and part of living in a community is to be objectively considerate of others' thoughts, look at how they fit with our own, and choose to appreciate their advice or respectfully set aside the input. I cherish it when people care enough to will my good – to love, as Pope John-Paul II defines it.…

In Amy Tan’s novel “ The Joy Luck Club,” and in Bissinger’s novel “ Dreaming Of Heroes,” there are examples of expectations. In the Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Jing-Mei was supposed to be a child prodigy according to her mother. In the novel her mother says to her, “ Of course you can be a prodigy, too.” (Amy Tan pg, 132) Jing-Mei’s mother expected her to be a prodigy and Jing-Mei wanted to be for a while until her mother made her do work all the time. This is similar to Bissinger’s novel “ Dreaming Of Heroes” When Billy wanted his son Mike to live out the dream of baseball. He knew that the pitchers were about to get harder and the home runs were not going to come as easily to Mike anymore. Billy knew…

In one case, I was fighting to win the league tournament for my school and losing 1 to 5; my opponent only needed four points to win. Around me I saw my team, coach, and the other team standing against the fence watching me play. I began to repeat a mantra in my head, “I’m going to win.” By sheer determination, I won the match. At the end of the tennis season, my coach said I was most resilient player he’s seen, and awarded me as the Most Valuable Player. This wasn’t an isolated incident - I was often playing an opponent much more experienced than myself, found myself falling behind, and bounced back in the…

Hope is a unique concept. It can lead to both good, and bad things. Hope can be for the little things, like getting the job you wanted, to someone close to you waking up from a coma. Though, it can give you something you never would want. Having hope for getting asked to prom and when the time comes, they are dancing alone, ends up crushing someone. Hope is delicate and fragile. It is confusing, yet it is the simplest thing in the world. Some learn to never have hope, and some learn to take the consequences, good and bad, for having hope.…

Albert Ellis thinks that whenever we expect things always to go on smoothly and fall to where we want them to land, we end up being disappointed and frustrated whenever it goes the other way around. Yes, I agree on this. We should not put too much expectation on certain things because in the end, whatever the result may be, we either smile or shed a tear. But somehow, we can’t avoid putting expectations on something, especially when you know that you did your best to achieve what you wanted to get. For example, you studied hard for an exam and all of a sudden, your teacher failed you just because you didn’t copy the questions on the board even although you got the highest score. So, in response to the decision of your teacher, you get very disappointed. I don’t think the irrational belief of Albert Ellis is applicable for this situation. Sometimes, we get disappointed or emotionally troubled for both rational and irrational…

On my school varsity team, we faced a very similar challenge. It was the regional quarter-finals of my senior year, possibly the last match I’d ever play with my team. We were down 21-10 and all hope seemed lost. I went back to serve with the intention of pushing past what I thought were my limits and getting every single ball up. This attitude quickly spread throughout the entire court, to the bench, and all the way through the stands. It seemed as if we were a new team in a new game that had never lost. Like the girls I’d coached, we came back and won that night which allowed our season to continue. One small amount of determination to push past easily accepted limits can completely change the outcome. I have tutored a friend, and the one thing I will not allow him to say is “I can’t do it” because in saying this, you accept your failure at something and are thus unwilling to try until it is achieved.…

Going to college is a monumental thing in every individual’s life. For females in particular they’re promised the man of their dreams that they will potentially spend the rest of their lives with. The thing that these girls aren’t told is that, the process of finding Mr. Right involves going through a few Mr. Wrongs first. The unfortunate thing is that no one informs the female about bouncing back from the experience with their Mr. Wrong. It’s a known fact that when women are hurt they have one of two options, either to get even or bottle up their feelings and subconsciously take them out on the next guy that pursues her. The most disappointing thing in all of this is that women are the one that get ridiculed for being cold and heartless towards the very men that broke their hearts.…
