"Dare You To",by Katie McGarry, is a novel that demonstrates how the simple words " I dare you…" has led two unlikely teens to meet and learn that they might not be so different. These teens live contrasting lives in which there put into life-changing situations, these encounters are not the same for both. To Beth life has given nothing to look forward to with her mother being an alcoholic and drug-user who dates an abusive drug-dealer while taking her daughter's love for granted. Poor Beth not only has to support her mother instead of the other way around, but she has grown to live with the guilt that she is liable for her father's incarceration. Meanwhile, Ryan lives what appears to others a wonderful life, considering he has baseball scouts offering him to go play pro and a father who is looked up to in there town , but little do people know that his so-called 'perfect' family have been through a harsh period of time when Ryan's parents are no longer supportive of Ryan's older brother's lifestyle when he announces that he is in fact gay. Ryan has to deal with overbearing parents , who now fight non-stop,and a brother who is absent. When Beth Risk, a seventeen-year-old is put in a situation in which Beth has to chose between her mother's freedom and live with her uncle-whose been missing for half of her life- or her happiness, she is brought to a world where she doesn't belong-she lives in a place where she is unwanted by her aunt(her uncle blank's wife), goes to school where no one understands her. Except maybe one person… Ryan Stone. Too bad Ryan is only interested in her to win a dare, unless his false interest turns into an intense attraction. Will both of them overcome there problems?
