Cyberbullying Prevention Act Essay

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez is now funding the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act. Furthermore, some citizens are wanting to prosecute people who are cyberbullying. People who cyberbully should be prosecuted so that way it can discourage people from doing it in the first place. Cyberbullying has become a serious problem. First of all, 81% of victims of cyberbullying think that the cyberbully thinks that it is funny. This is a problem because they probably have no clue about what they are doing and how hurtful it is to the victim. In addition, cyberbullying affects them everywhere they go. For example, in a fact sheet by The Ophelia Project, it states, “60% of targets said that their online experiences as a target of cyberbullying affected
For example, the victim and the cyberbully don’t even have to know each other. Therefore, the victim can’t go and talk to the cyberbully at school, for example, and tell them about the hurtful things they have done. Additionally, cyberbullying is present at all times and usually almost anyone can see it if they have access to the internet, which regular bullying is just the people who were there know about it. Cyberbullying is a constant form of bullying that you can never get a break from. Some people may say that the solution to cyberbullying is to educate them about it. These classes would also include how to not offend people online and how to avoid being cyberbullied. However, do you think that the online offenders are even going to listen to these classes. Also, the cyberbullies don’t have to be young people, they can be grown adults, so we can’t give an informational class to everybody in the United States. The way to handle cyberbullying is to have a punishment for it. Cyberbullying is a problem that needs to be handled.
