Competency Goals Statement Ii
Competency Goals Statement II
Goal: To advance physical and intellectual competence. It is essential to the growth and development of every child to advance their physical and intellectual needs. There are numerous ways to encourage this type of development. I offer a variety of activities that promote the advancement of the physical and intellectual competence of the children in my care. Children are encouraged to participate in daily large motor activities to enhance physical development. I do this by being very enthusiastic and even joining in with the children at play. Outside we play tag, ball, hopscotch, and other made up games. Inside we play parachute, and beanbag toss. I also communicate with the children and their parents about the importance of being physically active. In class we have discussions, and I send newsletters home to parents with ideas for activities. Children in my classroom get plenty of time for large motor activities and know why they are important to their health. I help children develop cognitive skills by encouraging them to try things out. For example, when it snowed this winter the children placed snowballs in the freezer and discovered that they froze into solid ice. They thought that the snow would stay the same rather than freeze, and were surprised that the snow froze. We discussed what happened and why it may have happened. Cognitive skills are used daily in our classroom and the children have fun developing them. Creativity is in the materials and interest areas throughout our classroom. Children have access to art supplies to create their own artwork. Paints, markers, pencils, crayons, and paper are available for children all the time. Many types of music are sung and played during the day. Children can use instruments and scarves to move with the music. Many different kinds of clothing can be found in the dramatic play area.
In my classroom I help children learn, understand, and use words to communicate. This is

One of my goals of the functional area of physical is to have activities planned that will challenge the physical ability. Playing organized games outside with the whole class is something that could be done. There are many planned activities that can help promote children physical skills, but it can also be done through free play. Providing the proper equipment can make free play a very good way to achieve this advancement. One of my goals of the functional area of cognitive is provide activities that challenge a child’s thinking. This is best done through activities that require much thinking. An example of an activity that will advance cognitive development is a type of maze. It may be one you can walk through or one you do on paper, but a maze will help get the brain flowing. One of my goals of the functional area of communication is to set an example for the children. A child learns very well when they see an example set for them. If I show how to talk to one another through communicating with the children, then they will begin to communicate the same way as they have seen. One of my goals of the functional area of creativity is to put focus on materials and lesson plans that make the child’s imagination wild. Dramatic play materials are something that will help child’s creativity. Best example of creativity is an art. When kid does art their creativity will be much abroad.…

    * Physical activity: this is essential to children of all ages, because this helps to strengthen many parts of the body, especially the heart, lungs, bones, and muscles. This also links the need for stimulation. Many children might not get the opportunity to run about at home so at my work setting we give the children allotted time everyday (about 45min daily) and take them to our outside area where they can run and play and get all the physical activity that they need. However, if it is raining outside we have a special area inside where they can still run about and have plenty of physical activity. We also promote this through planned activities in class to strengthen their bodies.…

In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…

Young children enjoy being active and exploring new things. Instead of discouraging them from exploring, playing and getting dirty, encourage them to remain physically active. Physical activity is important for children in the early childhood group and has many physical underlying benefits. Some of these benefits are that it allows the children to develop their movement skills from gross motor skills to fine motor skills. ‘These skills include running, hopping, skipping and climbing. Physical activity also helps to build strong bones and muscles. It also aids in improving a child’s balancing skills whilst improving their flexibility levels’ ( McDevitt and Ormond, 2010, p. 161).…
