With the discovery and colonization of North America, there came many different powers and views on how to rule the fresh land. Each power; Spain, England, and France, brought something different to the "New World" making an impression on those already living on the continent. Each of the countries came for different reasons. Whatever that reason, Spain France and England all had to interact with the natives of the New World in some way, shape, or form to prosper on the new land. How each of the different European powers handled living with the Natives are vastly different and in some ways extreme.…
The period known as the Indian-European contact was unarguably an extremely difficult time for the Indians, who experienced massive lifestyle changes. One major change experienced was a reduction in their population, as result of the foreign diseases brought in. This reduction in turn affected how well they could defend themselves from the outsiders trying to take control of their territories. Thus, most were eventually forced to change their homestead locations. The Indians also experienced a change in how they were perceived by the many different nationalities that wanted to take over their land.…
When Christopher Columbus first set foot upon the New World and began trading with the natives he incorrectly dubbed "Indians", he had no idea that his bartering would eventually lead to immense contact between the Native Americans and Europeans. After ,Columbus' discovery in 1492 the exchange lasted through the years of expansion and discovery. The Columbian Exchange impacted the social and cultural makeup of both sides of the Atlantic. Then, the Native Americans also experienced epidemics in the form of new diseases, and brought over by the Europeans. The Columbian Exchange positively affected the lives of the Europeans. They gained many things as crops, like maize and potatoes, land in the Americas, and slaves from Africa. And yet the Columbian Exchange just may be the single most important event in the modern history of the world. The Columbian Exchange explains why Indian nations collapsed and European colonies thrived after Columbus's arrival in the New World in…
Members of each nation copied relationships with Indians in many different ways. Few Europeans considered Native Americans as equals, because of differences in religion, agricultural practice, housing, dress, and other characteristics. However, the French, Spanish, and Dutch sought profit through trade and exploitation of New World resources, and they knew that the native people would be important to their success. Europeans also wanted to convert Native Americans to Christianity. So, economic gain and religion were the two factors that most affected the dynamics of European and indigenous American relationships.…

During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Europeans started to come over to the new world, they discovered a society of Indians that was strikingly different to their own. To understand how different, one must first compare and contrast some of the very important differences between them, such as how the Europeans considered the Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while, considering themselves civilized. The Europeans considered that they were model societies, and they thought that the Indians society and culture should be changed to be very similar to their own.…
Throughout the first chapter, what I found most interesting were the relationships and differences between the newly arrived aliens and the natives of what is now the United States. The two recognized each other as of the same species, but most of the communication efforts between the two were futile. The language of the new comers differed significantly. They had an oral dialogue and written communication, which the natives understood nothing of. I find it most interesting, because I have ancestors that trace back to both the natives and the new comers.…
