Compare Harry Potter and Lord of the Ring
Whoever reads Harry Potter or Lord of The Ring should also discover the other one too. Both are the same basic “hero’s journey” archetype with two great main character which I really love: Harry Potter and Frodo Baggins. There are certain similarities between them which interested me a lot. Like Frodo, Harry is an English orphan; and both of them discover their destinies as reluctant heroes after a birthday: Harry after his own while Frodo after Bilbo's 111th birthday party. Since then, Harry entered a strange new world with magicians, dragons, unicorns, gnomes, and elves popping up to do battle… and Frodo’s world has certain things in common. They both have a Dark Lord enemy who are very cruel and powerful wizards: Lord Voldemort and Sauron. Each of the boys have a scar, and it hurt when the Dark Lord is near, talking to him or touch him. Frodo’s characters are somewhat like Harry’s in that they both determined, courageous, honorable, kind-hearted, tolerated and clever. Just as Harry has to find and destroy seven horcruxes to defeat Voldemort, so Frodo takes the mission destroy the One Ring to save the world from Sauron. Finally, they are both success in their missions.

Although there are many different opinions about who is their better hero, I think both are great heroes and they have shared the same important role in my teenager’s life. The similarities are good enough to create heroes as great as they be so they are fun and interested, not should be compared to

    One thing I noticed was the use of several different themes included in both stories. In the Lord of the Rings the inhabitants of Middle Earth join to save themselves from enslavement. Centuries before, a ring was forged putting much power into control of who had it. Some men fell into that power, but an alliance of men and elves defeated it. The Ring was cut from Sauron hand. Sauron was a antagonist character who was pursuing the power by wearing the ring. After being cut from Saurons hand, the ring should have been destroyed, but a human prince, Isildur, took it. Myth also played a part in The Lord of the Rings, the sense of transience and lost grandeur that pervades The Lord of the Rings goes, in part, with the territory in which Tolkien is wading. He writes the novel in a mythic mode, and one of the conventions of myth is that it describes a past that is more glorious than the present. This sense of loss certainly is present in the Greek myths, for example, or in Homer’s epic poems that draw on these myths—both of which describe a world in which men and gods mix freely, a world that is no more. Tolkien’s own work is something between mythology and fiction, locating itself in a middle ground between a past that is remembered only in song and the everyday present of the reader. This sense of ancientness is constantly present, brought to life in chants, poems, and graven inscriptions.
