Effective Athletic and Business Leaders
Effective leaders can be found in a wide variety of professions. Being an effective leader is not limited to certain jobs. While both of the leaders are highly effective, they both have their own unique traits that make them different from the other. I had the opportunity to interview both Kelly and Jeremy and understand their leadership history, their philosophy of leadership, their leadership traits, their implemented leadership strategies, and their leadership vision along with mine.

I interviewed Ben Cleveland, who is the head Athletic Trainer for Oklahoma Baptist University. Athletic Trainers are not technically a field in leadership studies, but this interview was very beneficial to be because I want to be an Athletic Trainer at the high school level. This interview just reassured me that being an Athletic Trainer is truly what I want to do with my life. Before talking about how Ben views leadership, one has to know and understand his background and where he is coming from. Ben is originally from Mobile, Alabama and earned his undergraduate in Science in Athletic Training from the University of Alabama soon after that he obtained a Master’s of Science in Physical Education at Florida State University. Ben started as an assistant athletic trainer at Trevecca Nazarene University for seven years before accepting the job here at Oklahoma Baptist University.…

She began her career in business in 1989 as an office manager for the Frito Lay Company. In 1991 she moved into sales and became an account manager covering the territories within and surrounding the city of Shreveport, LA. It was in this position that she discovered her love for sales and business. Within one year she was promoted to district sales manager and supervised a small team of account managers. As a district manager for the Frito Lay Company, she outshined her fellow managers by exceeding sales goals and demonstrating a transformational leadership style. Transformational leaders are “leaders who inspire followers to transcend their own self-interests and who are capable of having a profound and extraordinary effect on followers” (Robbins & Judge, 2015, p. 346).
