All across the globe , Americans are taking on a greener, healthier and cleaner way to live. I have adapted to this green lifestyle very well. Inside I feel great knowing that I’m helping save the planet by conserving our natural recourses. There are plenty of easy ways to be more environmentally friendly like recycling, to planting trees, refusing to use plastic bottles, and even growing your own fresh vegetables. It is truly the easiest way to make a big impact on the environment, and in return, your health. Ever since I was in high I was involved in recycling. In my High School there was a environmentally friendly club and I attended every week. There were recycling bins in every class room and even in the cafeteria. As a group we helped bring awareness to our fellow students teaching them its really simple to reuse, reduce, and recycle. We recycled about 7 tons of paper a week and each ton you recycle equals out to seventeen trees. I have just been so interested and in tune with mother nature that we have grown to be come one. At Asnuntuck I don’t feel or see a lot of the green lifestyle going on. This is my doubts about the school are starting from. I have been thinking about how I could liven the place around here. I notice a lot of students just passing by each other in the halls with no recognition towards each other. I’m looking for a way to help bring my fellow people together for a good cause and coming together to help out the environment is something wonderful. How greener can it get than starting a green club at our community college. There are plenty of students who are environmentally friendly and like keeping the planet and their bodies clean. From the faculty to the students there are plenty of people that love the environment as much as I do. This is a wonderful idea to bring a wide variety of people to one club. There are already people I know that are interested in the idea of starting one. As the club is being created I want

What are you doing to help our environment? Are you recycling because it positively impacts the environment, or are you recycling because it is trendy? According to Alex Williams essay, “Buying into the Green Movement,” companies are turning an environmental movement into a fashion statement. Many people are only buying eco-friendly products because television and magazines advertise the movement as a new trend. The eco-friendly fashion statement is actually making consumers buy more, which defeats the purpose of conserving our planet. Although it is important to buy and pay attention to economically efficient products, sometimes less is actually more. The essay argues that many people are not cutting back on their usage of day-to-day items. William’s essay strongly shows his passion about the subject. Williams is able to persuade his audience to consume less through his use of logos by stating facts, using ethos to…

I bought a refillable water bottle so I don’t have to use the plastic ones that are from Stracks. One way my family and I have helped as a unit is buying a water jug. Each jug (we have 3) hold up to 5 gallons, and only costs $1.75 to refill each jug. Not only is it cheap, we’re not throwing away hundreds and hundreds of plastic bottles every month. Another way we as a family do this, is we grown our own food. Such as tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, jalapeño peppers, and watermelons. Ever since we started growing our own food we don’t have to worry about buying produced vegetables, we know where they came from and what they were grown in. We don’t thrown old food away as much because we all like the taste of the home grown food. One other way I personally try to help is try to carpool with my friends. If we’re going to the same place we try to all get a ride together. I know it’s a small difference, but it will eventually help change global warming.…

When people join the “green” community, are they truly worried about the conservation of the earth or are they trying to fulfill their need to make themselves feel better about themselves through a charitable act? Some people may feel that if they “go green” in one way, like buying energy efficient light bulbs, that they can justify it within themselves to turn around and not “go green” in other areas, like throwing away recyclables because in the end the two acts will balance each other out on the pollution scale. It is like people are using the excuse of safeguarding the environment to purchase their moral superiority against others because they are working to save the environment by buying energy efficient light bulbs even though they have helped to worsen the situation by throwing away recyclables. “Going green” has been turned into a status symbol and is growing into a fad. However, what is going to happen to the environment once the fad fades away? Some people will step up, but there might not be enough to keep up with the damages that others are…

During this experiment, our group of volunteers was supposed to keep track of people throwing away recyclables. We had to make sure no one threw away recyclables and no one put trash in the recycling. We also had to give anyone who actually recycled anything a raffle ticket, and he/she has the possibilities to win something cool. This was a fun experiment because it was a relaxing thing to do during lunch, we just sat there eating and staring at the recycling bags we set up around the main are where people eat lunch. But very surprisingly there were almost no people who recycled. It was not because they were throwing things in the trash it was just that no one was disposing of their lunch around us, or maybe it was that people would eat lunch off campus. Only one or two people actually threw a bottle into the bins we set up. At one point a friend came over to me to chat with a glass bottle, and I enthusiastically was encouraging him to recycle it. He just looked at me funny and said he did not want to but I could, so I recycled it and gave a raffle ticket to myself. But while I was sitting there I was chatting with a junior or sophomore whose name I think was Michael, and he is one of the people who started this whole project. I thought it was very inspiring how much work he had put into these projects. He had been to many lunch recycle duty projects and is very invested in his work. He is even working on brining compost to Berkeley High School. The Green Academy at BHS is into creating an ecologically sound community and campus. When we were all gathered up in the beginning we talked about a competition between schools going on at the time and the most eco friendly would receive some sort of prize but I don’t know where we placed in that contest. Over all it this was a great experience to see how much people care for the health of our campus and community.…

    Environmental Sustainability

Lakehead University, is the first university to become environmentally sustainable, and the first university in North America to be “green” from top to bottom. While many buildings in Ontario have aimed to be environmentally qualified, Lakehead has made it their goal for the entire campus to be sustainable and built to environmental standards that will make the campus the greenest in the country. The university has strived to make every aspect of the building environmentally safe, from the roof the parking lot, as well as the interior of the building. As a student I have experienced how Lakehead Orillia has been environmentally conscious, and whether or not they have been true to their word of being safe for the environment. Lakehead has made a dramatic name in society being the first all “green” building and has attracted many people because of the environmental standards they have set. However, being a university this is a difficult promise to keep, especially with the expansion they are expecting. Through my time I have spent at the new campus, I have observed the sustainability of the school, and how conscious they really are at maintaining the school “green”.…

If you would have asked me if we should help the environment in the past I probably would have said yes and continuing with the question how, I would have just said something lame like everyone should change their light bulbs for energy saving light bulbs like everyone else. Now however things have changed. Nearly all electric machines, household appliances and even cars got environmentally friendly equivalents. But to be honest I know that it probably is too much asked to expect everyone would utilize these and although a lot has to be changed we can just start from the bottom by changing some things in our ordinary daily life’s like turning of the water while brushing our teeth, unplug appliances you’re not using and setting the thermostat a few degrees lower etc.…
