A.C 1.1 Explain why effective communication with those outside the work team is important
Effective communication with those outside the work team is important as it allows effective relationships to develop that are built on trust and respect which can benefit not only your work team and the team/individual you are communicating with but the business as a whole. It can benefit you, your work team and your business by creating environments where ideas can flourish and allowing fresh ideas to be bought into the team from outside, this can be extremely beneficial as thinking within a team may become stagnant without any outside influence. These new ideas may help solve problems and resolve differences previously unresolved.
Those you may communicate with outside the work team might include; customers, suppliers, and upper management. It is important that your communications with these people outside your team is appropriate; you must watch your language and not say anything that may be deemed as rude or offensive even if meant in jest, not be too over familiar, be polite and attentive, be helpful when possible and always show respect. Inappropriate or ineffective communication can have a huge impact, a customer who believes a member of staff has not been very helpful to them may then choose to shop elsewhere next time or if you have communicated poorly with a supplier/contractor (i.e. lack of information given or have been rude to them) they may choose to make another business their priority over your own.

There are a number of appropriate methods of communicating with those outside the work team. The main method would be through verbal communication; this is the most common method of communication, is appropriate to use with anyone and will allow you to gain and pass on information quickly using verbal communication skills such as
