College education brings you both mental and material benefits. First, college education is a bridge connecting student role and social role which will take you to the future. By study at college student could learn necessary social skills and professional knowledge before they take their next step into society. The experience you gain from college education is both academic and practical. Student will participate in many social activities during their college life, such as being a mentor and attend cocktail party with entrepreneurs. What is more the systematic knowledge you gain from college education is your lifelong treasure which helps you get professional job. Furthermore, college education can take you spiritual fulfillment. On one hand, college education is the symbol of social status which states your social circle and cultural manner. On the other hand, college education is the mellow wine which contains your academic accomplishment and personal fulfillment. College education act as a key for us to open the door to social resources. For instance, one could meet the person of authority when you attend a lecture, and find a job through alumni. Aside from those mentioned before, investment in college education also stays in one’s memory and mark as a milestone in your academic accomplishment. This knowledge became the spring of happiness when you observe this world and develop your own research. Finally, no doubt, your investment in college education brings you higher return and longer career life. Compared with those without a degree or diploma, graduates from college get higher salary. Since the mid-1990s, the average (inflation-adjusted) wages of college graduates have skyrocketed, increasing by 18 percent as of 2004, a recent study found. In contrast, wages of high school dropouts rose at about half that rate -- 10 percent -- over the same period. Louis Menand, a college professor and the author of “Live and Learn: Why We Have College,” explains the meaning of college through three theories that have been developed. Theory 1 supports the idea of the sorting-out process that separates the highly intelligent from the less intelligent. Menand’s second theory explains that college provides opportunities for developmental growth, personal growth, and teaches individuals about the world around us. These are valuable lessons that will not be learned anywhere else. Theory three supports the idea of people attending college to specialize in a specific vocation. I am a firm believer in Menand’s second theory. I believe that college should enlighten students in various ways to make for well-rounded members of society, that college leads individuals to the path of self discovery, and everyone should have an opportunity to attend college.…
