Although the Emancipation Proclamation did not free one single slave, it certainly made a turning point for the Union side of the war, for now they were fighting for the freedom of a race of people. The Emancipation Proclamation lifted the Union soldiers’ hearts to fight harder than ever before to free the blacks from slavery in the south. Abraham Lincoln ordained the inspiration to abolish slavery forever in America. Even though Abraham Lincoln did not personally cut the chains and shackles off the slaves to set them free, he did start and lead the North the inspiration of abolishing slavery and so he is therefore credited for doing so.…
Lincoln rejected the idea of secession and only a month after becoming the president, he lead the Civil War against the Southern states to preserve the Union and to spread equality and democracy. The Civil War is the bloodiest conflict that America has ever endured there was over 600,000 dead Americans in five years. Lincoln had assigned Ulysses Grant to lead the Northern armies as a ruthless warrior and an exceptional strategist. In 1862, Lincoln announced his Emancipation Proclamation, which granted freedom to slaves who were in the South meaning in the areas that were rebelling against his government and did not recognize his authority. This was the turning point where the war wasn’t only to create one Union but also to end slavery all around the nation.…
Before the civil war happened, the northern army was a small army, when crisis came volunteers came to protect their land and freedoms if threatened. the souths army was only made up of white men, while the norths army was made of foreign people who came from different countries, white men and eventually blacks after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. As the war continued the army only had five major goals. The armies’ major goals were to block the southern coasts, capture and control the Mississippi River, capture the Souths capital Richmond, destroying Atlanta and Savannah, and break the southern spirt. With blocking the southern coast, it would prevent foreign power, leaving the south to fight on their own. When the northern captured…
The civil war began in 1961 and was sparked by many reasons which include slavery and a book named Uncle Tom’s cabin. The war was essentially fought in order to preserve what they had, the south fought to preserve their beliefs and way of life while the north fought to preserve the union. However, the eager and willing compliance of African Americans throughout the civil war led to a signification alteration in the war goals. Therefore a later contribution to the new culture and politics that followed.…
As a result of two documents, the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth amendment, President Lincoln was able to achieve this feat. “Lincoln noted the morality of his decision, writing that he believed emancipation to be "an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, upon military necessity." The document had immediate practical benefits as well, as the British government backed away from recognizing the Confederacy soon after Lincoln issued the Proclamation” (Behrend). Clearly, freeing the slaves through the Emancipation Proclamation was the best course of action. Due to the bold declaration, Lincoln was made a statement of the Union’s power which deterred a powerful foreign entity from joining the war. Not only does the Constitution, which is the highest law in the land, justify Lincoln’s action, they were morally called for. If not for the Civil War, our nation would have continued to support a dark practice which enslaved fellow human beings. Along with achieving the goal of freeing slaves, the Emancipation prevented Britain from joining the war. This would have tipped the scale in favor of the South and could even jeopardize the nation’s freedom. The Thirteenth Amendment was also necessary to free all slaves. “This amendment abolished slavery and gave Congress the power to pass laws to enforce the abolition...The end of the Civil War and the…
Authors Martin P. Claussen and Eric J. Morser declared, “The president, however, defended his position in a series of open letters and continued to arrest anti war protesters, even after 3 March 1863, when federal lawmakers required the government to release or subject political prisoners to regular or judicial procedure” (Claussen and Morser 284). Lincoln changed the rules citizens lived by. He didn’t allow people to protests although that was unconstitutional. Also he defended himself for putting people in jail without trial for fighting politically. There were a lot of significant changes because of the…
The United States of America was filled with tension because of numerous events. In the day that Abraham Lincoln became president, Southern states seceded. To make the situation even worse, the Civil War took place to resolve this conflict between the South and the North. President Lincoln’s duty of preserving the Union was more important to him than to give the slaves freedom because he just wanted to use the African-Americans for military force, political power, and to end the Civil War.…
The constitutional aspects of the advancements that took place were very crucial in this time period. One of these was the South Carolina Declaration of Secession, which was introduced in December of 1860 right before the Civil War began. In this document the government of South Carolina provides its reasons for it seceding from the United States, such as the North’s disregard for the Constitutional rule supporting slavery, and this was a big step for the formation of the Confederacy (Doc. A). Another major political move was when African Americans petitioned the Union convention of Tennessee that if they were forced into military duty they should also be allowed to vote (Doc C). This was a very bold move for blacks in America because it was an attempt for a higher authority to take notice of racial suffrage issues. Later on at the very end of the Civil War Lincoln’s Secretary, Gideon Welles, wrote a diary entry that he feels that the Federal government should have no control over the matter of suffrage in any states and that getting rid of slavery should be done constitutionally but spoke nothing of the matter of civil rights for blacks (Doc. D). All these controversies over slavery, suffrage and citizenship rights were solved during Reconstruction when the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were added to the United States Constitution (Doc. G). The passing of these amendments was a huge revolution for America because it was now finally giving equality to all men.…

He issued the Liberation Decree, which reprimanded slaves dwelling in insubordinate states "be then, henceforward and perpetually free." This would get to be compelling January 1, 1863. The Liberation Declaration was pointed just at those states at war with the Union, and did not impact slave-holding outskirt expresses that did not join the Alliance. More than an endeavor to free the slaves, it was an endeavor to re-join the nation. The Announcement was a critical element in turning the tide of the war. Not just did liberating the slaves deny the South of labor, however in the area of 186,000 previous slaves joined the Union Armed force. Furthermore, it changed the European's point of view on the War from being about legislative issues to being about rule. The northern thrashings had enticed England and France to perceive the Alliance; yet the Decree made them…

However, it doesn’t matter what his motives were because when it comes down to it slavery was ended because of him. He issued the emancipation proclamation that abolished slavery for good. This Act illustrates his courage because he had the gall to do the moral and proper thing against all odds.…
