Civics Summative
River Ward Councilor Dear Riley Brockington,

Riverside drive has many beautiful views and is near Mooney's Bay River. I am very satisfied that people are living in that beautiful area. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on winning the last election and becoming the River Ward Councilor for this period. As you promised all the people around that area and people who visit that you, to welcome all the issues and problem that could occur in that area.

I have an issue with the river in Mooney's Bay Park where I realized garbage was coming from the beach side very near the park and almost near the Hog's Back Falls. I couldn't believe that a beautiful area like that has garbage all around it. I asked the neighborhood where was that garbage coming from because it was creating a horrible smell.
The neighborhood said that it was a new issue. They agreed that the garbage throwing was out of control and that it was creating a bad smell.

I gathered some information from the neighborhood and people who come to visit there, to find out the reason of this garbage throwing and the smell. After a lot of research, we discovered it was the people who come and visit the area. Second, it could be coming from another park or place and traveling along the river and getting stuck under the Hog's Back's dam. Through my gathered information with the neighborhood and other people who faced this problem, we found a solution that we would like to suggest to solve this problem; by asking some responsible volunteers to create a cleaning system, very near to the dam where we can get rid of most of the waste before the waste gets stuck under the park that we all know and love. We also have to send some professional workers to help find out the location of the main area through the river where the waste is coming from. We also should put out signs to advise visitors not to throw any waste, which could harm the

“I’m a pretty compassionate person, and my heart goes out to the Giffins,” Anderson said. The centers where garbage is being disposed are concealed, and not exposed to the public. The way we deal with our garbage is unhealthy; [mention groundwater]. Actually, landfills are a better alternative to garbage on our city streets. Litter-trash thrown on the street and in other improper places-is unhealthy for the public, a waste of money, a bad example for other cities, and bad for the earth.…

On the first day of school, I went to Brush Creek with a chunk of the freshman to help clean out the trash from Brush Creek. We split up into groups of nine and went to different parts of the creek and cleaned out all of the junk that got in there. Cleaning out the creek is very important for the community because it helps keep animals safe. Although all of the principles from the Grad @ Grad apply to this, committed to doing justice is a key principle in this activity. I learned a lot about how litter can affect our earth and how much litter there is. You can tell how important cleaning the creek is by finding out that Kansas City has started a 25 year, $2.5 billion project to fix the sewer and drainage systems so trash from other places doesn’t…

For many years a huge Manila garbage dump known as Smokey Mountain was a favorite media symbol of Third World poverty. Several thousand men, women, and children lived on that dump--enduring the stench, the flies, and the toxic waste in order to make a living combing the garbage for scrap metal and other recyclables. And they lived there voluntarily, because the $10 or so a squatter family could clear in a day was better than the alternatives.…

I wish to express how disappointed I am in the garbage collection schedule in my community. The collection of garbage is a necessity in every community which must not be ignored or toyed with. For the past two week period, there has been a great inconsistency in the dates of garbage collection as well as the times that our garbage has been picked up in the past. This sudden change in the collection schedule has greatly altered our small community’s general routine as there has been an alarming increase in rodents and pests, very unsightly garbage disposals and a growing rate of stray dogs in the area.…

To help contain this issue of water pollution we should do what the NRDC (natural resources defense council) says. Issue a plan that people have to follow. Raise the littering fine, because litter can end up in storm drains that head out to the ocean. Also put a really high fine on littering at the beach these fines will make people think before they litter anywhere and if they do some of the money from the fines should go help pay for treatment of polluted water.…

About ten months after we moved in the rubbish began to arrive at first we didn’t notice it because it was lodged in-between our two fences. One day we noticed the lattice fence had a large bulge we started pulling out bags upon bags of abhorrent smelling rubbish, cat food, cleaning products you name it. My fingers graze across a sharp can of beans and I notice what looks like human faeces. That was when we realised there was something not quite right about our neighbours.…
