Origins and Principal beliefs of Christianity
Christianity originated in the city of Jerusalem as a monotheistic religion which rooted from Judaism in the 1st century. Jesus of Nazareth, first recognized as a Messiah, is now known as the Son of God to Christians, is accepted as the founder of Christianity. Jesus, given that he sought only to renew Judaism, did not intend to find a new religion.

To some people, Jesus is recognized as a normal human being who felt all human qualities and had human limitations. This is true because he was evidently born of a woman at the time of Emperor Augustus. He grew up in a human family, worked as a carpenter in Nazareth for most of his life and died experiencing pain and suffering. However, to others, he was truly believed as a divine being, the Son of God. His teachings, the miracles he performed and the healing of many was truly seen as the power of God and people later realized Jesus’ role on Earth, for all humanity to receive salvation and resurrect and ascend to heaven after defeating death. Jesus’ dual nature had been formulated by Council of Nicea the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

Death, Resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ are very important to Christians. It is from these three principles that the traditional belief of ‘Jesus died for our sins’ gets connected.

One of the principle beliefs of Christianity is that God is One existing as three persons which are: God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit as sanctifier.

Throughout human history, God has revealed himself to get intimately involved with all aspects of human life. Revelation of God has been ongoing since the start of Old Testament as it has been done numerously through great people of the bible such as Moses. However, God’s fullest revelation takes place through the words, deeds and actions associated with Jesus Christ.

Salvation is said to be the gift from God that is offered to all humanity

The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus are at the crux of Christianity. In hind sight what seemed like foolishness to some on lookers has become the wisdom of God triumphing over evil by the death of His Christ Jesus on the cross. Like the stanza of a well known verse, Christ cried out, “God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” This cry from the cross on the day of His crucifixion was not a cry of defeat, on the contrary; it was a cry of victory in the ears of those familiar with the blessed twenty second Psalm written by His very namesake David the king, the priest, the psalmist. Victory…

Jesus was human, a man. There are times when this fact is overlooked and it shouldn’t be. “His humanity is taken for granted in the Synoptic Gospels, as if could not possibly occur to anyone to question it.”(Elwell) There are many references to Christ’s humanity. Luke 2:40 “As the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on Him.” The Bible declares that Jesus would be born of the seed of a woman. Galatians 4:4 says “ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law.” John 1:4 also says “ In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” There is no denying the humanity of Jesus.…

Over the last seventeen centuries, Christianity has focused on Jesus as the Messiah, the Savior of us all, who was born to save us, and died cruelly on the cross to save us. Sin and Salvation are two of the most crucial concepts in Christianity. They are the basis for the current purpose of man’s existence and define the future of God’s creation. Sin is a curse that all descendants of Adam are cursed with due to his disobedience of God. The consequences of his sin is that all of humanity is separated from God and damned to eternal Hell. This, however, is not the full story. When Adam first sinned, God promised a savior that would right the wrong that Adam committed. This savior was Jesus Christ who came and died as the perfect sacrifice covering man’s sin and offering all of humanity the option of salvation as a way to live with God for all of eternity.…
