“Death of an Innocent” I personally think Chris McCandless did die in a senseless way. I do have sympathy for him because he wasn’t expecting to die the way he did and he didn’t die on purpose. I could understand why people in the passage thought differently of McCandless, but if they knew how he felt and why he did the things he did, I think people would understand him more. I think McCandless died in a senseless way because he didn’t have any idea that he would die in the Denali National Park. He thought he was well prepared because he had lived off land for quite some time now in his life and thought he had all the materials needed. He was an intelligent young man and it was always his dream to live off the land in the Denali National Park. He thought he could lie with the few supplies he had, but turns out he couldn’t, and didn’t. I think if people knew McCandless an knew what was going through his mind, they wouldnt have thought of him as a bum or someone who wanted to test the land and try to live in unlivable land. He was experienced and had traveled to many different parts of the world. It was always his dream to go to that national park.

Similar to other characteristics, greatness is not something easily defined or subjectively interpreted. As Transcendentalism was a style of belief revolving around nature and independence, Transcendentalist author Ralph Waldo Emerson documented a standard for greatness in his essay, “Self- Reliance”. According to Emerson, it is easy to assimilate and conform when surrounded by societal interferences, and it is easy to be independent when alone. The challenge, that shows true greatness, is being able to stay genuine and truthful to one’s self even with social hindrance. By these standards, Chris McCandless, the controversial main character of Into the Wild, is “great”. At first glance, McCandless appears to be a young man with his head stuck…

Although some may believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild because of inspiration, I think that his primary reason was due to his family issues and emotional damage. I feel as if he was trying to run away and leave his past life. I can agree with others beliefs that he was inspired because he did read many things and was very influenced by some writings. However, the apparent problems he had with his family caused this issue because he showed many times before that he didn’t like his home life. Others even saw that he was unhappy with his parents and he wanted to leave and live what he thought to be a more peaceful life. Not only was just his parents divorce talks, his arguments with his father, and his distance he felt from his mom and dad a huge problem for him, he also was emotionally damaged by other…

National parks definitely have a big significance in American history that is not even a question. What is questioned is just how important national parks are. People like Wallace Stegner, or Ken Burns believe that national parks are America’s best idea; however, people like Clay Jenkinson, director of The Dakota Institute, or Alan Spears, of High County News, would agree that National parks are indeed not the greatest idea of America. Clay Jenkinson directly said, “National parks are not America’s best idea” (The National Parks; America’s Best Idea). Obviously it is a split issue on just how important the National Parks really are but clearly National Parks is not America’s greatest ide.…

Entrepreneurs are busy by nature and the one chosen by me is Kyle Smitley. She may be busier than most as she's a full-time second-year law student in San Francisco, and also the founder of an organic kids clothing line that has become popular with celebrity moms like Jessica Alba and Sheryl Crow. The reason I chose Kyle Smitley is because she seems to be able to do it all and handles her studies along with the business which makes her someone to look up to. She admits that it is very tiring and busy, "At first it was just me staying up until 2 a.m. every day figuring out how to get people to notice the line," she said in an interview with the time magazine. "I basically just don't sleep."…
