Chloroplast Research Paper
Chloroplasts
Chloroplasts are food producers of the cell and they make the plant green. They are organelles found in plant cells and animal cells do not have chloroplasts. Also, they have a eukaryotic alga that conducts photosynthesis. In a plant cell there can be anywhere from 10 to 100 chloroplasts in one cell. They are approximately 4 to 6 cm in diameter and shaped like a satellite dish with the concave face forward toward the light. Also, they are similar to mitochondria but mitochondria works in the opposite direction and break down the sugars and nutrients that the cell receives. Inside chloroplasts there are three types of membranes. The first membrane is the outer membrane. This membrane is smooth, and freely permeable to molecules.

As stated in the intro photosynthesis, “is the process is where plants use “light energy from the sun that is converted into carbon dioxide and water to glucose sugar and oxygen gas through a series of reactions.” ("Chemical Formula Basic Chemistry - Writing Chemical Formula To Balancing Chemical Equations", 2014) All of this information is complied in an equation that helps understand the process, carbon dioxide + water = light energy => glucose + oxygen. The carbon dioxide can be found in the air, water comes from the earth and the energy comes from the sun. Chloroplasts trap the light energy, water then enters the leaves from the earth, and the carbon dioxide enters from the stomata. All of these combined produce glucose and oxygen, which then leaves the leaf and is stored in the plant tissue.…

Chlorophyll plays an important role in photosynthesis because it is responsible for the absorption of sunlight. There are also two types of chlorophyll. They are chlorophyll A and chlorophyll B. Without chlorophyll to absorb light, plants wouldn’t be able to live and the earth would not be able to sustain life. Chlorophyll also plays a major role in the plants growth. It allows the absorption of the light that is needed to make glucose. Glucose is used as energy that the plant needs for growth. Richard Martin Willstätter research he did on chlorophyll won a Nobel peace prize because the structure and importance of chlorophyll was still unknown or very unclear to many. His research clarified the structure and the importance of chlorophyll in the process we call…
