Bizarre-
Andy had a bizarre, fleeting expression that grips his features.
Commemorate-
To commemorate Meredith’s father’s homecoming, Meredith’s mother was going to make steak until Meredith noticed it was rotten and threw it away.
Complacent-
Meredith referred her mother as lazy and complacent.
Conducive-
Being molested by her father is conducive for Meredith to hate him for the rest of her life.
Consense-
The family consensus was that they would eat steaks for dinner. Meredith was the only one who disagreed and wanted to eat something different.
Deplete-
In order not to deplete all her perfume, Meredith’s mother only sprayed a little bit on her.
Diligent-
Meredith believes that her mother is not very diligent.
Empathy-
Meredith has no empathy for her father when he went to prison because she believes that he deserves it.

Gist-
The gist of the novel Such a Pretty Girl is about a young girl who got molested by her father and is scared she is no longer safe because her father got out of prison after three years instead of nine.

Sharon hampered Meredith’s plans when Charles told Sharon that Meredith is only fifteen-years-old.
Menial-
Sharon is very menial when it comes to cooking. She kept on burning the food.
