In 2009, the total liabilities were 29.81% of the total assets, and the total shareholders’ equity was 70.91% of the total assets. In 2010, the total liabilities were 37.51%, and the total shareholders’ equity was 62.49% of the total asset. On November 11, 1974, Gnazzo had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted in her uterus for contraceptive purposes. The IUD was developed, marketed and sold by G.D. Searle & Co. (Searle). When Gnazzo’s deposition was taken, she stated that her doctor had informed her that “the insertion would hurt, but not for long,” and that she “would have uncomfortable and probably painful periods for the first three to four months. On October 11, 1975, Gnazzo found it necessary to return to her physician due to excessive pain and cramping. During this visit she was informed by her doctor that he thought she had Pelvic inflammatory Disease (PID). She recalled that he stated that the infection was possibly caused by venereal disease or the use of the IUD. The PID was treated with antibiotics and cleared up shortly thereafter. Less than one year later, Gnazzo was again treated for an IUD-associated infection. This infection was also treated with antibiotics. Gnazzo continued using the IUD until it was finally removed in December of 1977.…

Lowes’s should renew the efforts to acquire Rona instead of expanding into the Canadian market. The Canadian consumers already are aware of the stores operated by Rona and this will help ensure they use them. Rona has the advantage by have a combination of large and small stores spread throughout Canada this alone will help cut cost greatly for Lowes if they choose to enter this market. Rona will already know the Canadian laws required for entering the market and this will help protect Lowes in the long and also save time and money.…

This competition forces corporations to target new markets to take advantage of to succeed. Globalisation can be defined as “the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale” (Oxford) or “the widening, deepening and speeding up on worldwide interconnectedness in all aspects of contemporary life” (Held et al, 1999). A company such as Coca Cola Company has been very successful as a multinational company, which is now operating in over 200 countries and has over 84000 suppliers. Currently over 70% of Coca Cola’s business income is generated from non-US sources (Coca-Cola Company, 2012). Coca Cola has grown into a multi-million dollar business and has continued to grow. They have created new products under the Coca Cola company to target and cater for different types of target markets such as powerade for sports people and younger people, vitamin water and diet coke for health conscious and older consumer, fanta and sprite for soft drink fans. Coca Cola now tailored a product line to meet the needs of the younger consumer by offering flavored coke products such as cherry and vanilla coke. Coca Cola also used packaging differentiation to adapt its products to various market segments. Functional…

    Case 8.1 Laramie

After reviewing the data from 2010 – 2011 you noticed that all the accounts increase, expect for the both “Days” account, which decreased and the “market price for Copper Rod” which reminded the same. This information can raise a few questions for Laramie Company. For example, Sales increased by 4% ((8,8350,000-8,050,000)/8,050,000)*100)) from year 2010 to 2011, while in that same time span the Days Sales in Receivables increased by 16% ((55.8-47.9)/47.9))*100. Why aren’t these numbers closer in change? What did the company change about the policies on collecting their money, if any? Another flag that can be thrown and raise question is about the inventory. Even though the price of the plastic decreased and the inventory increased, we have to make sure it’s the right balance. Is the new price of inventory at the correct price and is the account receivables correct as well? What system are they using to create these figures?…

Utilitarianism is a type of theory that was developed to come up with a proper course of action that maximizes the joy of the stakeholders involved. While consequentialism is defined as the view that value of an action derives solely from the value of its consequences. Today, consequentialism is the form that usually takes form. Utilitarianism tries to evaluate the moral worth of an action after one has considered the actual consequences, the foreseen consequences, and the anticipated consequences. In the business environment, situations arise that require the application of utilitarianism ethics. Decision makers are placed on notice and utilitarianism takes priority over the business other interest. This ensures proper growth and development in the correct manner. Case 1 Handstar Inc

    • 870 Words
    • 4 Pages

Handstar Inc. was created a little over four years ago by two college roommates to develop software applications for handheld computing devices. It has since grown to ten employees with annual sales approaching $1.5 million. Handstar’s original product was an expense report application that allowed users to record expenses on their handheld computers and then import these expenses into a spreadsheet that then create an expense report in one of five standard formats. Based on the success of its first product, Handstar subsequently developed three additional software products: a program for tracking and measuring the performance of investment portfolios- a calendar program, and a program that allowed users to download their email messages from their PC and read them on their handheld computers. The two founders of Handstar have recently become concerned about the competitiveness of their offerings, particularly since none of them has been updated after their initial launch. Therefore, they asked the directors of product development and marketing to work together and prepare a list of potential projects for updating Handstar's current offerings as well as to develop ideas for additional offerings. The directors were also asked to estimate the development costs of the various projects, product revenues, and the likelihood that Handstar could retain or obtain a leadership position for the given product. Also, with the increasing popularity of the Internet, the founders asked the directors to evaluate the extent to which the products made use of the Internet. The product development and marketing directors identified three projects related to updating Handstar's existing products. The first project would integrate Handstar's current calendar program with its email program. Integrating these two applications into a single program would provide a number of benefits to users such as allowing them to automatically enter the dates of meetings into the calendar…

    a. Firstly, the Toyota Company itself was a major microenvironmental factor that affected its product at the very beginning. The marketing department of Toyota didn’t do enough promotional activities for its new vehicle. In a country like U.S. where as we all know all SUVs sell likes hotcakes, no one would really be interested to buy a dull hybrid car. Also the department involved in designing the product was too weak to attract customers at first. When it was launched people considered Prius to be small, cramped compact with a very dull design. Also due to its low horsepower, the pickup time was very long. The car took 14.5 seconds just to go reach a speed of 60km/hr. No matter how much environmental friendly and energy saving the car was due to low promotional efforts by the company and also the dull design, the introduction of Prius was highly affected. Also, even if the car was worthy enough of a purchase because of its environment friendly quality and fuel saving, enough people didn’t hear about it. But later on, Toyota did make its new version and the marketing of the product was raised as the brand image developed.…

When IT implemented this 24*7 concept, they should deal with key problems as followings:…
