Garth Stein in the novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, tests how Denny’s, Eve’s husband and Maxwell, Denny’s father-in-laws, relationship guides their behavior towards each other, their fears through Eve’s illness and their personal love for her, causes them both to do things that held serious consequences. Stein supports his claims by contrasting their differences in handling the trials. The author’s purpose is to point out the dissimilarity in the way people handle sicknesses ending in death and the crisis the families sometimes go through afterward. The author writes in an emotional yet humorous tone for those who love dogs but for those who will enjoy a story of hope and love.…
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is fairly new to the realm of sports. There is a known debate about whether NASCAR is a sport, some people say it is not a sport, but I say it is. The definition of a sport is “An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.”(Webster). In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills the competitor acquires while determining the outcome, winning or losing.…
The Race Beat: the Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation by Gene Roberts and Hank Klibanoff tells the story of the role and influence of the media in covering the black civil rights from its beginnings to 1965. Essentially, as their subtitle suggests, the authors make a convincing argument that that national (white) media’s coverage of the Southern struggle was essential to the passage of the landmark legislation of 1964 and 1965 (that’s the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act for those keeping score at home).…
After watching the film “Race: The Power of an Illusion” I decided for this weeks journal to discuss about how I felt about the film. In the beginning, the film discusses about how there are physical characteristics that are obvious for people to identify when discussing different races. In addition, the film debates the belief about how races may have certain advantages whether it is physical athletic abilities, musical altitudes, or even intelligence through their biological makeup. Microbiologist Pilar Ossorio says “There are no genetic markers in everybody within a particular race, and in nobody within another race”. These microbiologists simply cannot find any genetic markers that define race as whole.…
Drag racing is a test of speed. I’ve always been interested in cars since a young age. I liked older cars and how they looked compared to new one. I saw a movie involving Nascar. After this I looked into different kinds of racing and this is the one I found most interesting. My dad has taken me to streets that aren't used a lot and let me drive his car His car is older and has the same gears as you would use in drag racing.…
NASCAR history can trace its roots back to 1794. That's a century before the invention of the automobile, but it was the year of the Whiskey Rebellion. This was a protest of a federal tax on whiskey by frontier farmers. Instead of being subject to the tax, many frontiersmen built secret stills, manufactured, and delivered their product in secret. Most people do not know that this is the true origin of NASCAR history.…

Motorsport is a broad term which is used for description of all the events which involves competition using motorized vehicles. “The motorsport can either be racing or non-racing completion. The history of racing on mounted horses dated to the first millennium BC. In the beginning no breed of horse could carry jockeys a significant distance. The first mounted horse races took place in Ancient Greece. More frequent races were for charity in Roman times. When Rome fell in the 5th century horse breeding and racing declined in the west.…
Racing is not about driving a prestigious car or participating in the showmanship, but the true value of car racing depends upon the time you have spent in polishing your driving skills. The objective of my article is to guide you and tell you about the basic but crucial driving techniques used in car racing. No matter how much road- hot rodding you may have done or how expert a driver you think you are, driving on the race track is entirely different. Many writers have written articles on good driving skills, but I wanted to write for those who don’t know how to drive properly. Because difficulties and possibilities only lie in the head, in reality, there is no concept of impossibility! Below…
NASCAR has become an American household name that has successfully built their company by offering live racing entertainment, partnering with sponsors, marketing families, and capitalizing on branding by offering merchandise to consumers. Although NASCAR is highly prosperous, they could continue to increase their revenue and expand their achievements by insulating themselves from economic downtown, preforming a SWOT analysis, and by leveling criticism again them.…
I don't know what it is about racing, but I really enjoy going to the track. The…
As many as 10,000 thoroughbreds are shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter every year. What could possibly justify this number? Due to the mistreatment of horses, horse racing should be considered a crime and should be banned.…
