Introduction
Background of the Project
Computer is one of the technologies that most people use in their everyday lives. The use of computer is one of the fastest growing and most important developments in our time. People used computers to give easier and faster method in finding information. Most students use computers to their research work, assignments, projects, and thesis. Through computers we achieve changes, in where we create different things through the use of its features.
In the Philippines, computer literacy has been one of the thrusts of the government through the Department of Education and some private institutions. At present many schools, both high school and elementary, are now using computers in the delivery of lessons. This is being called the computer-assisted instruction (CAI). Teachers have already seen the advantages of CAI as a way of solving the problem on individual differences of students in learning. In Davao City, an initiative to improve the English language proficiency of teachers and students in tertiary schools will be piloted at the University of Mindanao (UM) in Davao City and the Notre Dame University (NDU) of Cotabato City. The project is a partnership between the Promoting English Proficiency (PEP) Project spearheaded by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham) and its expanding group of partners, and USAID's Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program. The PEP-Mindanao Project utilizes a combined approach to proficiency training that includes classroom teaching and computer-aided instruction. (www.questia.com, October 30, 2006).
