The article titled “Brazil Seen Beating US in Soybean Trade as China Buys” discusses the rising production of soybeans in Brazil. The US is currently the largest grower of the product and therefore holds a comparative advantage in trade amongst nations. Rising supply from Brazil will create competition for the business of the largest demand which is held in China. “Production in Brazil climbed 53 percent in the past decade, compared with 7 percent in the US” (Javier, Chanjaroean, 2012). In 2012-2013, Brazil is said to produce 81 million tons of soybean as compared to 77.84 million tons in the US which portrays Brazil’s comparative advantage (Javier, Chanjaroean, 2012). China has imported 59.2 tons of soybean in the year ended September 30th of which, 45 percent were produced in Brazil and 39 percent were from the US. China utilizes soybeans to create meal for livestock and fish, and to produce cooking oil. It is clear that the US is losing its competitive edge on the production and distribution of soybeans mainly because it no longer possesses the comparative advantage in production. This analysis will discuss what enables a country to rise above its competition via the creation of comparative advantage in trade.…

Despite a few exaggerations and assumptions, Tolan presents a well-researched, impartial history…

Rivalry – The degree of rivalry is high in the kiwifruit industry this is because exporters in four countries (China, New Zealand, Italy, and Chile) dominate the industry which puts a squeeze on current and new rivals. Also the global increase of kiwifruit production has led to more supply which in turn affects the competition. In addition there is not many variations or species of kiwifruit available on the market with exclusion of Zespri’s gold . Therefore majority of exporters are selling the same product with different to no variation in quality. Lastly the kiwifruit is niche product in the fruit industry and only accounts for a small amount of the retailer’ sales. Therefore competition to gain shelf space in grocery stores and supermarkets are high.…

Agriculture and agricultural output are very important to the Ugandan economy. The agricultural industry is the largest employer of Ugandan's with 75% of the population earning a living from the industry. Food and agricultural raw materials account for 40% of the total exports from Uganda. Additionally, the sector contributes 22.7% to the Ugandan GDP. The large contribution of agricultural products to the Ugandan economy has led the government to promote value addition as a means of increasing the value of exports. According to the Ugandan Investment Authority (UIA), the demand for Uganda’s organic products is higher than the supply. This imbalance presents a high opportunity for export of organic fruit juice from Uganda. Fruits and farm produce are wasted or sold at very low prices during peak seasons due to inadequate storage facilities and lack of effective processing or preservation techniques, leading to high wastage levels. Juice production not only serves to add value to agricultural export but also serve as a way to prevent wastage of excess fruits. The juice industry has an opportunity to contribute to the Ugandan economy by increasing the value of the country’s exports and simultaneously preventing wastage of fruits so high in demand, and creating jobs for Ugandans.…
