Fencing material and cameras are only a simple man made deterrent or obstacle for crossing the southern border. A blowtorch or any other means of penetrating a fence can be used to defeat the purpose of a border fence (Silko, 1994). belief that less people would want to risk their life or life of a loved one just to cross illegally into the U.S., but this is not the case. A life away from constant fear of death is what any reasonable human being wants. This forces many Mexicans into attempting to cross the border and illegally is their cheapest and quickest way to accomplish this. Money becomes a large contributing factor and as jobs and the Mexican economy deteriorate, more workers are trying to find a way into the U.S. to provide for their family (Politzer,
2007).
As there are many factors that bring people into the U.S. every day there remains only a select few that are granted access legally. As long as the number is low, there will remain a large number of personnel attempting to enter illegally. Nothing will stop the American dream. Despite all the current and future deterrents at our southern border, nothing will stop immigrants from crossing the border illegally as long as they do not remain completely open.
