This took place at Taft Union High School near Bakersfield, California. This school shooting started because the student was a victim of bullying and he wanted revenge. The student came to school and shot one student and missed another. He called the student who was bullying him, and the came out of hiding and apologized, but the teacher, Ryan Heber, interrupted and he came face to face with the 16- year-old student, who was armed. Heber wasn’t sure with this if the student was either, going to put the weapon down or continue shooting. While the student was distracted, Supervisor Kim Fields took the rest of the students so they could escape. Finally, the shooter surrendered and the police took the student into custody. Friday, the next day, school was cancelled due to the situation, but counseling sessions were held that morning for teachers or students who wished to attend. Before Heber spoke to the shooter, the student who was shot in the process was in a critical, yet a stable condition. Kern County Sheriff, Donny Youngblood said “The name of the student wasn’t released, and is debating whether he will be charged as an adult or not.” KDET reported “Heber is a well-known and liked science teacher and was a graduate at Taft and with the situation the Heber family will be there for him with emotional support.” The Taft shooting was the latest school shooting in the U.S., and it launched a big debate whether teachers should carry weapons to protect themselves and others in case of another shooting. Immediately after the shooting, parents went to the school to pick up their children and express concern about the school security. A parent reported “We’re going to protect our students a lot more, and it goes to show that there is one bad apple out there.”…

Internships are an important part of the growing experience for an individual; they can help determine what one would like to pursue for a future career, and what one would not like to do. My time interning with the National Museum of Civil War Medicine was overall an amazing experience. I now possess an overall understanding of the tasks of a collection manager must deal with on a day-to-day basis. I tackled a multitude of projects while working with Kate McDaniel, the projects consisted of dealing with loan documents, photographing artifacts, designing and creating two display cases, and researching non-accessioned objects. Through this variety of tasks, I have enjoyed some more than others and know how small non-profit museum differ from the larger ones. I loved interning at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, I met amazing individual and learned an immense amount about the field of curation, which I original knew very little about.…

The problems that eventually caused the Civil War had been brewing since the formation of the United States. It became a perfect storm; everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. One issue in particular, slavery, had been contentious since the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787. Slavery was an issue of economy and political influence at the time but became integral to the southern economy in 1794 with the invention of the cotton gin. The cotton gin dramatically decreased the cost of cotton production and thus dramatically increased the demand for the free labor provided by slaves. Because the profit margins were so high, southern planters focused more of their resources on the production of cotton making slavery more…

There was an incident at Edward T. Steel Elementary school and there were not any school police on hand to defuse this incident. Early one morning a few weeks ago during the opening recess at the elementary school a parent entered the building with her two children in tow harassing another student from the school. They walked through the halls the mother shouting at the little girl they were targeting and a few moments later by the main office a fight broke out between the daughter of the mother who took her into the school and the girl being harassed. The whole time this is going on not one person in the office came out to break up the fight. The brawl got out of hand really quickly when the mother began pulling the girls hair while the brother of the girl whose mother brought them in there hit the little girl in the face with a rock. It was total chaos in the building none of the kids would go to class and when the principle finally arrived to break up the fight the girl that was harassed had visible bruises on her face. When her mother arrived it was even worst because by then they had the mother and her 2 children locked in a room. The mother of the girl who was attacked was furious. She demanded answer, and honestly she deserved answers. The only answer that the school could give her was that the school only has a cop once a week and that today was not the day they were scheduled to be there on this particular day. The Philadelphia police did show up to defuse the situation, yet the result from this incident is now that no parents are allowed in the building until 9:30 a.m. which means that the students enter the building through a back door. Which has several parents upset because people have to send their children in pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade into the school and pray that they make it to class safely. The whole purpose of me stating this is…

Although overall school violence is declining in America, mass shootings in suburban and rural areas are becoming more common ("School" par 1). On April 20, 1999 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to bring firearms and explosives to Columbine High School to go on a shooting rampage. These two boys, before killing themselves, killed 12 students, one teacher, and wounded 24 others. The cause of this Massacre was violence at the school place, Harris and Klebold were bullied as students and no action was taken when they started talking about killing people or physically hurting people. At the beginning of the school year teachers should give students talks about violence and school shootings. Teachers should tell students that violence is not a joke and it needs to be taken as a serious offence, whether there is going to be a fight at…

At first the civil War was about saving the Union, but it became much more when the debate of slavery in the North and South came about. Sectionalism became a problem. Copperheads were Northern Democrats who opposed the Civil War; they wanted peace in the South. Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederate States. Davis argued against secession, he was not as successful as President Lincoln. In the 1860’s, soldiers of the Union and the Confederate started deserting the army. The North and the South passed a law saying all white men ages 18-45 had to a Military draft called conscription. Even slaves went into the Southern military. Even though the slaves did have the Under Ground Rail Road, the Slaves that stayed behind use this as a way to escape.…

and 12:08 p.m. a mass school shooting occurred at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. The type of attack was a school shooting, mass murder, murder-suicide, arson, and attempted bombing. On that day there were a total of 15 deaths including both Eric Harris and Dylan Kalgold, the perpetrators. They had various motives including: bullying, personal stress, terrorism, and a video game reenactment. That is crazy right? What kind of person would use actual human beings to reenact a video game? This massacre sparked a huge debate over gun control laws. Secret Service researchers found to believe that Zero- tolerance policies and metal detectors are unlikely to be useful during these moments of attack. In a split second something can happen. Most attackers usually had access to and had used weapons prior to the attack. School shootings are a partial percentage of the death rates that rise every single…
