Becoming a Network Administrator
October 3, 2013

Becoming a Network Administrator I have always had a strong interest in technology and computer networks. After years of strenuous personal deliberation I finally made the decision to focus on obtaining a career as a network administrator. I had to weigh many options in making this decision and ultimately I decided that network administration had more positive aspects than negative. In my deliberations I learned that the network administration field of employment is constantly growing and offers many opportunities for advancement within the field. Becoming a network administrator will provide me with a stable career with an enjoyable work environment while giving me the financial ability to support my family. Network administrators are the individuals responsible for maintaining the computer hardware and software that make up a computer network. Computer network administrators plan, establish, operate, maintain, and support the use of all networks and related hardware, software, and peripheral equipment (OCC Info Alberta Occupational Profiles). Network administrators have many duties within their position such as keeping records and preparing system operational reports. Individuals applying for work as a network administrator can expect to work in an environment such as an office where they are working with many different types of workers. Most companies rely heavily on their network administrators and this requires that they are available to work some unusual hours. Sometimes a network administrator will need to work on weekends, nights, and even holidays. There are many qualities that a person would need to possess if they want a career in network administration. If you want to be a successful network administrator you will need to have the ability to think logically and analyze complex information. This is important as a network administrator because you are constantly working with complex technology
