Bas - Academic Misconduct

Academic Misconduct is the violation of academic integrity and is defined, but not limited to: plagiarism, cheating and collusion. It is any form of material(s) attained by students, which results with an unfair academic advantage. The University of Western Sydney (UWS) enforces and expects current and future students to abide by the Academic Misconduct Policy, which focuses and aims to incorporate ethical conduct with a students learning experience. However, in cases where misconduct occurs, procedures under the Academic Misconduct Policy are taken and penalties are given depending on the gravity of the misconduct. Academic Misconduct violates academic integrity, and is defined by plagiarism, which takes place when a student submits any form of academic work where ideas, presentation, articles and/or presentation are taken without acknowledgement from the sources, and is presented as their own. It is also defined by cheating, which is the dishonesty in academic assessments i.e. examinations, assessment tasks, practical tasks and tests. It is the use of materials that is not permissible by the teacher of the unit or the supervisor of the examination. Academic Misconduct is also defined by collusion, which occurs when two or more students and/or other individuals engage/encourage others to engage to plagiarize, cheat or any actions that fail to comply with the academic misconduct policy.
