Banning Homework Research Paper
“Headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems are all symptoms of stress” says Sandra Levy. Homework can impact kids in many ways and stress isn’t the only one. Theirs depression impacts on the brain. And much more, but stress is the number one symptom. A simple, easy, but hard way to stop all this stress, depression, and time consuming of young students is to STOP giving them homework. Yes, there will be sometime they need it but not a whole ton of it a little bit of homework can help them a little but no homework at all helps the best.

Banning homework is easy but hard for teachers to do. Yes many will say students don’t finish their homework because, they are not responsible, they don’t feel like doing it, they don’t care… but NO you’re all wrong. Students get overly stressed about homework worrying if it’s all wrong, worrying if they

YES! This is actually because, of homework a symptom so repetitive can be caused from something no one would ever imagined it can get caused from. Studies have proven that “if a pupil is inundated with too much homework their life balance is thrown out of all proportion. All children and adults too should adopt an 8-8-8 circadian rhythm to life where eight hours work, eight hours play and eight hours rest (sleep) plays an important factor to how we all roll.”

It can be enough that kids have 8 hours of school each day doing classwork, learning, taking quizzes, test, notes, and so much more - now they even have to do homework after school. On the usual students get assigned homework that takes (some of us) at least 3.2 hours in one day. Weekly it’s usually 14 hours. Other kids take more than 3 hours to finish their homework just for one day. That’s too much homework taking away precious time from our lives. NOT to count in how much more time we spent getting ready, eating, doing after school activities, doing chores, and making up

Some students don’t know what to do when the teacher assign their homework. They don’t know what to do because when the teachers assign them homework the night before to do, they spent all night doing it. Then the next day at school they are way too tired to process any work and lesson the teachers are teaching. They would just fall asleep and pay less attention. That causes the student to not know what to do and they just write down random answers. Then when they turn it in the teachers mark it wrong and give them a bad grade. Eventually with all these bad grades in their file it will bring their grades down a lot. This would just give more stress to the students and drain their energy. An average person should be getting about seven to eight hours of sleep a night not two or three…

To begin with, homework is taking way family time and fun time from students. Because students get a lot of homework they no longer have time to spend time with their family or have their own free time. For instance, in the article titled “5 Reasons Why Homework is Bad for Your Child,” the author states, “Children need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends and attend extracurricular activities so they can refresh their minds and bodies.” The reasons that are stated in the article specifically, are examples of how homework takes away family time. School is supposed to only take up to 6 hours but with homework it no longer take 6 hours of school work but more. Therefore, students don’t have enough time to do there own things.…

How are they supposed to complete hours worth of homework, as well as complete other activities that they are committed to? And on top of that, the student is expected to have at least 8 hours of sleep per day. Homework is preventing students from leading an active lifestyle, which therefore is harmful to their bodies. According to Stats Canada, about 72% of parents found that homework was often a source of household stress (Survey of Canadian Attitudes toward Learning). That is due to the fact that students are put under great pressure from teachers and parents. Unnecessary assignments could raise the stress level of the student, which can potentially lower productivity and performance, rather than raise it. Distress, which is stress that continues without relief, can lead to symptoms such as headaches, migraines, and high blood…

First, homework isn't helping kids as they rarely have time to get outside and be active. Without time to get outside and exercise, more and more kids are being diagnosed with ADHD and obesity. They don’t get to have fun and let out energy so when they are at school for seven hours a day they have a harder time concentrating. This has become a growing problem with middle and high school students as many schools have taken out physical education from the school schedule. When kids get home, they won’t have time for exercise if they have hours of homework waiting for them.…

Students in Some elementary Schools are doing three times the amount of homework that should be required for their grade level. The students at these schools have worked on homework for more than twenty five minutes a night on homework. Students in elementary school do not have the attention span to be able to focus on doing that much homework at their age levels. The barrages of homework that are given these students have given many households stress with parents and their children. The NEA has proposed a 10 minute rule for every one grade you go up. That rule does not really seem to be logical because students in 5th grade would have to be doing 50 minutes of homework a night. 50 minutes of homework in 5th grade is not the best idea and the NEA should go back to the drawing board to figure out a better way to fix the homework problem in America. The article also explains how homework being given to the students should be based on the students’ abilities. If the student is very good at a specific topic the teacher should not assign kids the homework. If students need help with what they're learning, the homework should be given to them. If the teachers do not feel comfortable not giving all the students in…

Let’s imagine waking up super early in the morning, then making your way to a place that’s complete chaos, called School, then going through seven class periods, seven slow hours. Doing tons of work in classes working hard. So when the day is finally over you’re just ready to go home and relax, not to do stressful, super hard homework that you were given that day. I believe teachers should give less homework for many reasons. One being, us students get overwhelmed when we have too much homework. If homework for one class takes us 45 minutes up to an hour, imagine doing homework for all seven classes that you attend. Another reason being children would have more times for activities outside of school, such as sports, family time, or even academic activities outside of school, if they didn’t have so much homework to finish. High School kids don’t get as much sleep as they should because they are up doing countless amounts of homework for the maximum of seven classes, and if we aren’t doing homework were studying for a test or possibly even multiple tests we might have the following day. More work doesn’t mean necessarily mean more learning. Assigning more homework isn’t helping us students learn more, especially if it’s really overwhelming and we don’t understand how to do it, so we don’t. If teachers limited the quantity of how much homework we had, then they would receive better quality back, meaning if you assign us less homework/decrease how long the assignments are, and then you can expect us to do more quality work on what you do assign. Family time is valuable. We want to be able to truly spend time with our family members in the evenings, but we can’t accomplish that because homework takes up all that time we would have normally used. And, yes, I know that for lots of students it’s the TV that’s their companion at night instead of their parents. But that’s not how it is with all the students.…

In the last few years our culture has dramatically changed. We have gone from kids playing outside all day till the streetlights turned on to now surfing the internet alone at home. We know that physical activity is important to our health. Physical education helps our children improve their knowledge on health and lead them to practices that will benefit their future wellbeing. Some schools do not require students to participate in physical education classes; they don’t seem to realize how important it is for kids to be physically active. The sudden rise in obesity in young children has become a great concern in America. Physical education should be required every year for all public school students.…
