Bad Drivers
Bad Drivers! Story: So you’re out driving, enjoying the music playing in the background the wind blowing through your hair and you notice a car speed up in front of you and it kind of takes you off guard? Then as you continue to drive you notice the car slow down and suddenly push the brakes? No blinking right signal or anything! Then as you continue on your way the driver decides he or she will make a very SLOW right turn into a little street. So what bothers me? Bad drivers and their bad driving habits! Bad driving habits and ways to change those habits as well as possible consequences can make the road, a safer place. So what makes drivers on the road, “bad drivers?” Well according to a recent survey done by kanetix.ca, a media coverage and press release website, 8 out of 10 Canadians admit to having bad driving habits. (SHOW PICTURE) Eating or drinking while driving is one of my top pet pevees. People should really take the time to enjoy their food, instead of having it make a mess in their car. Not only should they think about themselves but also for the other people sharing the road with them. Secondly, drivers who do not signal really boil my blood. People do not think that they can cause major collisions by a simple ‘non signaling act” BUT it can cause more damage than it appears to be. For instance, I somehow ALWAYS manage to get stuck behind a really slow driver who does not signal or check his or her blindspot and one time I was about this close (show with hands) from hitting the car infront of me because he did not signal when changing lanes. These bad habits are only one of the reasons why bad drivers bother me. Along with the bad habits, come the consequences. Every act has its different fine. These fines can lead to tickets which can make a person’s insurance go up. Example of ticketed fines are careless driving and illegal parking. In addition, the insurance for males are much higher than it is for females. This is because males are seen as

    Speed limits are a must for traffic control, for safety in neighbor hoods and for avoidance of collisions. Accidents are unintedtional and unforeseen, but result in personal injury or property damage. When driving on the roads, it is important to follow the posted speed limits. The speed limits were picked for a variety of reasons. One of the most important reasons is that the legal speeds are considerably safer than higher speeds. Traffic control establishes a set of rules and regulations that people rely on to help avoid collisions and other hazards. With almost 160 million motorists and 3.8 million miles of public roads in the United States, traffic control on the highways is an important aspect of daily life. Without the control of speed there would be more fatalities than we already have now. Speed limits should be obeyed. A motorist going too slow could cause an accident. When everyone is traveling at the speed limit, a car comes up going 40 mph; if you break everyone will, too, perhaps causing a collision. Motorists depend on traffic control to avoid collisions and travel safely to their destination. According to a report published by the Governors Highway Safety Association, speeding and aggressive driving are hampering efforts to reduce the fatality rate further.In 1999, speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal crashes, and 12,628 lives were lost in speeding-related crashes. The economic cost to society of speeding-related crashes is estimated by the NHTSA to be $28 billion per year. Speeding…

    It was just a second. That is all it took. The headlights were speeding towards us. There was no time to react when I saw the other car. There were tire screeches and a blaring horn that was screaming in my ear. I felt my body slam against the seatbelt, and the shattering glass sliced my face and arms. That was the end. (Imagery). I hope that I will never have to live through that scenario. According to RMIIA in 2008, 2,739 drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 died in a motor vehicle accident. Since then, the number has only increased. From these statistics, adults often generalize teenagers as “reprobate” drivers. Shockingly, this statistic is similar for adults. Even though adults in America stereotype teenagers as “reprobate” drivers, adults can also be terrible, irresponsible drivers. Adults also text while driving, be intoxicated while they drive, and cut others off on the road. While these ideas are awful, the biggest pet peeve most Americans have today is that some people drive slow in the fast lane. This frustrates others driving, causing people passing others and increasing the likelihood of an accident. How does one think it is correct to drive 40 miles per hour in a passing lane? (Logos) I, for one, get very annoyed and agitated. (Ethos.) In spite of how I feel, or the rest of America feels, many drivers still drive without common courtesy to others. If I want to pass someone, I stay in the left lane and then move to the right lane. (Persona). They say that the slow turtle wins the race, but that does not mean that the slow turtle (metaphor) has to be in the left lane with the hare hot on his heels. Going below the speed limit in the fast lane causes other drivers to make risky, last-minute moves. Because of this, many states have signs on the interstate that read, "Left lane for passing only."     What I hate about driving, especially on the highway, is a slow driver. They believe that driving 10-20 mph under the speed limit is being precautious, but they do fully not understand that slow driving can be dangerous. They are oblivious to the whole world around them, mainly because they care about only themselves and not the other drivers around them. It’s irritating when some idiot decides to drive slowly on the left lane of the highway. The left lane is designed for passing, not holding back traffic. That’s why the right lane is made for slower drivers. Slow drivers can make highways and road unsafe. Driving under the limit on the left lane can cause drivers to start tailgating and eventually road rage due to the slow driver. People have places to get to and when drivers are behind someone driving under the limit, it causes frustration and stress. I usually drive 5-10 MPH over the limit on the left lane of a highway because I go with the flow of the traffic; that’s how usually people drive now-a-days. It is ridiculous how slow drivers rarely get tickets for impeding traffic in the passing lane. What really gets me going in a two lane road is when the slower traffic ahead somehow teams up and decides to block traffic behind them. Since the two people ahead are driving the same speed limit, it is impossible to get ahead of them. I hate when people hit the brakes even though they are driving the speed limit when they see a police officer. I understand that mindset, but driving the speed limit will not hurt anyone, the police will not mind.
