Assignment 302
Assignment 302 Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.

This briefing document will guide you through the key features when designing your lesson.

Unit 302 1.1 Describe key features of inclusive teaching and learning and Unit 302 2.1 Explain why it is important to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment.

The key features of inclusive teaching and learning are:
Creating and presenting opportunities for learning in such a way so that they are accessible to all students by making my lessons relevant and interesting.
Flexibility in the way I teach and what I teach and by varying my teaching methods, making my lessons relevant, interesting and creative.
Taking into consideration the different learning styles.

As a teacher it is your responsibility to adapt your lessons so that they are accessible to everyone and promote inclusive learning. This will be achieved by planning to meet the different needs of your learners in the group. In order for this to happen you will need to have as much information as possible about each individual learner. As an ALS tutor the initial information I gather comes from the application and interview process, through observation, questions/ answers, self-disclosure and evidence of qualifications. English and Maths skills are assessed using an online diagnostic test on BKSB once they have started on their course. If a specific learning need is identified then the learner would be referred for specialist support. This could be in the form of on programme, one to one or group work with an ALS tutor in a specialist area or general LSA support on programme or working with the learner on a one to one basis.
It is important to take into account the different learning styles (VARK) and incorporate these into your lesson planning and delivering. By using a wide range of teaching methods for example, role play, discussion, power points and practical activities. An example

A person can use the learning strategies to learn the new material and to teach effectively to others. Based on the VARK questionnaire, a person would first determine his or her learning style. Then a learning plan would be developed to learn the material based on specific learning style. Awareness of learning style, preferences, and strategies helps people learn easily in their own style. Consequently, people who struggled previously without knowing their learning style would succeed in their life (Montgomery and Groat,…

I would explain this to Hannah by telling her that ‘confidentiality’ states that everybody has the right to expect that any information they give to a health or social care worker will only be used for the reason it was given and will not be disclosed without the persons permission. People have the right to control access to their own personal information so a health or social care worker cannot discuss matters relating to the individual outside the work setting. I would also explain that confidentiality can be breached if the person that the information related to would be at harm if it was not disclosed and would be in the best interest of the individual. In this situation, the information would be disclosed to a senior member of staff and they would then decide who is the best person to contact regarding the individuals concerned.…

Learning styles are techniques to help enhance quality of learning. They are useful in problem solving and communication. They help process the information in different ways. There are multiple styles of learning that vary in numerous ways. Evaluating and exploring your own style will provide useful information to help enhance your quality of learning. Because we tend to use different learning styles in different situations, most of us have a mix of learning styles. One of the most popular guides to learning styles is a model developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming, a teacher from New Zealand. This guide is called VARK. The word VARK is an acronym. V, represents visual learning, like using pictures and graphs or charts. A, auditory learning, which consists of lectures, music, discussions. R, and K, for kinesthetic learning, which includes hands-on activities. This paper will address the diversity of learning styles, and how identifying and interpreting your own style may boost the quality of learning you receive.…

According to the VARK system, five learning styles exist: visual learning style, auditory learning style, reading and writing learning style, kinesthetic learning style and multimodal learning style. Visual learners use graphic presentations like charts, diagrams, and graphs to understand information. Aural learners rely on discussions, recordings and lectures to process information. Kinesthetic learners learn best when they can put concepts that they are learning into actions or activities for which they rely on videos and demonstrations.…

When I graduate, I plan to teach either first, second, or third grade with no specific content area, just the core curriculum. When I came to the University of Oklahoma I was a nursing major, and knew that I wanted to help children and thought that’s how I want to go about it; however, during a dissection in one of my courses last year I completely passed out, and came to the conclusion that this major was not for me. I had always thought about being a teacher, but certain things had kept me away from it; after this incident I just had a feeling that it was my true calling, and what I am meant to do. Teaching is such an incredibly valuable career, at all levels, but for my specific area of elementary education, we as teachers are providing the very ground work for all of our students future educational careers. Our students are our future and it is our responsibility to properly educate them so that they can excel to their full potential.…
