Arizona SB1070 Arizona has enforced the new senate bill 1070 which gives the police authority to check immigration status when enforcing other laws. SB1070 is supposed to cut the down on the illegal immigrants in Arizona by having immigrants carry immigration papers, or will be held until proven their status in the USA. The more they try to secure the border with bill 1070 the more they end up taking away simple constitutional rights of the citizens. The senate bill 1070 that has been passed is causing racial profiling, unconstitutional acts, and has put federal law into question. The SB1070 is encouraging officers to racial profile. “… Arizona police will have the right to stop anyone on ‘reasonable suspicion’ that they may be an illegal immigrant and can arrest them if they are not carrying a valid driver’s license or identity papers.”(o’leary) The officers that are in charge of enforcing this law are able to stop anyone that they assume are Hispanic or of Hispanic decent. Even if some are of legal residency in the United States, if they do not have any of the proper documents when they are pulled over and searched they are subject to being charged with a misdemeanor under Arizona state law. The law decreases the amount of immigration but it raises the amount of unconstitutional activities that occur. This law becomes in ways unconstitutional because of the way that the officers pick and determine who is suspicious of being an illegal immigrant. “The bill constitutes a complete disregard for the rights of nonwhites in Arizona” (o’leary). One of the ways this law becomes unconstitutional is by some of the ways they go about their profiling. The officers pull over citizens for traffic stops that are assume to be routine and after the officers see that the citizen is Hispanic or seems to look Hispanic they will be asked for paperwork showing that they are a
