In many cases, most people in the United States; even around the world do not acknowledge that our planet is being polluted by coal plants and other industrialized nations. Climate change is a problem and threat to the world. In the reading of “Environmental Warriors Going To The Root Of The Problem” by Greg Jobin- Leeds and AgitArte, it talked mainly about the Earth being polluted and the reasons for that. The people that aren’t wealthy are affected by the plants that are built in the cities around them. The non wealthy do not have the authority to stand up and make the environment better for themselves.…
The earth’s main resources are perpetual resources like solar energy, renewable resources like forests and fresh water, and nonrenewable resources like oil and gas. The resources can be depleted or degraded by overuse, by waste, by pollution, and by man’s increasing “ecological footprint.”…
1. We are transforming forests, prairies, and deserts and consuming large amounts of Earth’s finite resources such as rich topsoil, clean water, and breathable air.…
Ever since the dawn of industrialization, humans have caused serious, irreversible damage to the biosphere. And as the world progresses and Canadians looks on, they realized the impact of their environmental damage. Sometimes new ecofriendly technology enters the market and replaces the old environment damaging one. But that is not enough, human society as a whole must completely rethink and change themselves individually to so that their actions causes minimal environmental backlash.…
Jeremy Butman’s article “Against Sustainability” speaks of the personalization of nature in today’s society. He talks about Descartes and how his influence caused many people to retreat from worshiping God. Instead they begin to give his attributes to nature. Butman continues the article speaking of how humanity typically fears change. When we speak of sustainability we don’t talk about sustaining nature, instead we want nature the way we have become accustomed to. Humanity views nature as perfect, and as mentioned before even goes as far as to allow it to replace God, instead of viewing it as ever-changing. Nature is something that we are actively involved in. By continuing to call for the preservation of nature, Butman believes that we are…
Do you ever go outside and take a second to look around, and see everything that you have? What if one day it was all gone? Most people do not realize that they take advantage of what they have, even if it’s right in front of them. We humans need to focus on the renewable resources and help change our bad habits to save what is left of our planet. In the two srticles “A Good Without Light” by Curtis White and “The Climate at the End of our Fork” by Anna Lappe, both talk about how to change our bad habits and help save the sources we have left on this planet. Even changing the little things, like the way we eat can help us save our resources.…
It can be argued that human instinct is an ever evolving characteristic that is never always in sync with that of nature. Human’s have the ability and sometimes the burden to understand and comprehend what is happening to him and his surroundings. One thing that is consistent with Human instinct is that the level of understanding and the ability to adapt to one’s surrounding has both different points of views and attitudes towards what direction one should progress. What should the humans do to live sustainably? In Wendell Barry’s Getting along with Nature, Berry feels that change begins with the realization of interdependency between nature and humans. In The Tragedy of the Commons, by Garret Hardin, the population is the greatest evil facing sustainability. Hardin and Berry are the quintessential polar opposites in regards to their own personal perceptions, human nature, and faith in society but if we could meld these two minds then the idea of sustainability could become a reality.…
Human beings have inhabited the Earth for six or seven million years ("Natural History Museum", n.d.), but that is merely a fraction of the existence of this planet. Human beings have a penitence for gathering into groups and forming cities where industrial developments take place. The Industrial Revolution in America brought jobs and new products as well as technology. This is happening in other developing countries such as China and India today. Since our country has developed further into the digital age, our scientists have been able to observe the devastating effects that unregulated industry can have on the environment, and in turn, have on the people who dwell there. Now, there are many efforts in advancing our understanding and cohabitation with the natural world, and trying to reverse the damage that has been done.…
Although the 1960s were the formation to hundreds of grassroots green organizations, not until the following decade did these groups surpass national boundaries and become international organizations. The environmental organizations established were primarily concerned with nature conservation, wildlife protection, and the pollution that arose from industrial development and urbanization. Three of the most well-known environmental organizations or environmental movements are Earth Day, Greenpeace, and the Environmental Protection Agency, otherwise known as the EPA. "Environmentalism" arose as a broad term addressing common concerns over important issues that affected all forms of life on earth.…
Over the years people have lost more and more care for the Earth and it is suffering the consequences of this neglect. A bad stewardship of the planet makes it respond with problems such as Air Pollution, Global warming, Water Pollution, overpopulation, etc. We think that as stewards of the planet we have the rights to do what we want with it, but this is damaging it, and us as well. We are the only ones here with the power and capability to change this, and there are certain estrategies that we can implement in order to make a positive impact on our Earth's water, land, and air.…
In Mr. Franco’s chapter “205 ways to save the Earth” explains several ways to save the planet; the author of the chapter Thomas L. Friedman speaks in his article about the word “Green” and how that term is used, he continued in the article to say that people need to find ways to improve the environment and recommended that it is in the best interest of the world to preserve the world he goes into ways for example like citizens of the world should being recycling and to help beautify the planet. Mr. Franco’s chapter concludes that the countries of the world have to learn better ways to improve the environment for everyone.…
Humans are creatures of greed. They take, they eat, they consume, and they use with abandon. On a subconscious level people have become accustomed to ignoring the consequences of their actions because “that is just how the system works.” When it comes to the business of energy and energy consumption, they find themselves in a situation that is more than similar. We as a race use fossil fuels daily, with at least some knowledge on its affects on the environment, and we scarcely bat an eyelash. “How else can I get around?” or “How else can cities be powered?” are common questions when confronted with the idea of living without fossil fuels, as if there is no other way. “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not any man’s greed” (Mohandas Gandhi). We have begun to trek down a dangerous path where we cannot help but rob the earth of its resources and riches without giving back. And despite the fact that there are ways to easily power this world without the assistance of these ancient carbon remains, it is not a viable option; this is because this requires much effort in the realm of change, and changing “the system” would be too costly. Before we can think of a way we can reverse this process and use this excess carbon dioxide to our advantage, people must stop it in its tracks. The human race must adopt biofuels, mainly because they neither contribute to nor take from the problem. Fuels made from Biomass will only release as much carbon dioxide as they absorb, to grow, upon combustion. If people continue on this path we will soon reach carbon-atmosphere levels equivalent to that of when dinosaurs roamed this earth; consequently, we need to stop immediately.…

According to Alan M. Eddison, “Modern technology owes ecology an apology.” This is definitely true as economies and technologies have developed recklessly at the expense of the environment. The world has seen huge increases in consumption of the Earth’s scarce resources ever since the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s and countries, especially the developed countries, imprudently emit carbon and other pollutants into the environment, causing climate change. However, since the 1990s, the world has begun to realise the importance of safeguarding man’s only habitat and have shown greater willingness to protect the environment despite the need to progress economically at the same time. Therefore, it is still possible to protect the environment, even when many countries such as the large developing countries like China and India, are requiring greater supply of energy to boost their progress.…
It is true that our tiny individual actions often seem insignificant compared to the scale and complexity of global environmental problems such as pollution, deforestation and depletion of natural resources. But that does not relieve our duty as individuals to do as much as we can to deal with these problems。…
