Analysis Of Alka Seltzer Tablets
The theory is that molecules must collide with enough energy in order to create a new product. It is necessary for the collision to have activation energy in the reaction to be successful. For the first experiment, I used two cups of water at room temperature, which I used a thermometer to check the temperature, and poured it in a drinking glass. The constants in the experiment were the amount of water and the number of tablets. I then dropped one alka seltzer tablet in the glass and used a stopwatch for the time it took to dissolve. Once The alka seltzer tablet was dissolved, I recorded the time and then repeated the process two more times. For each trial, the outcomes were about the same.     Solubility is the amount of solid that can be dissolved in a certain amount of liquid at a certain temperature. In order for solubility to be tested, two trials were run. 5 mL of deionized water was measured and poured into a beaker. The temperature of the water was recorded. 2 grams of the unknown was measured out and placed into the same beaker as the deionized water. The unknown and water was then mixed well until the unknown was fully dissolved. Once the unknown was fully dissolved, small amounts of the solid unknown was then measured and mixed into the solution until the solution was either cloudy or had small amounts of solid unknown, unable to dissolved, at the bottom of the beaker. The solubility was then put into terms of moles per liter. Enthalpy change is the amount of heat that is released or absorbed in a chemical reaction at constant pressure. For enthalpy change to be calculated, 30 mL of deionized water was measured out and put in a coffee cup calorimeter.     On our first trial, we only put in blue, green, red, and yellow mixtures inside the test tube. Before we even put in the orange solution, the yellow liquid started to mix in with the red solution. It meant that the yellow sugar water was more dense than the red sugar water. On our second trial, we tried to put the green mixture first to see what would happen. When we put the green mixture inside the test tube, we decided to experiment and put in the yellow solution. The buret was filled with the filtrated solution and the glass tube end of a rubber tube was inserted about 2 inches into the mouth of the buret. While keeping a finger over the buret mouth, the entire buret was quickly inverted and the tubing and mouth completely submerged into the water in the 600mL beaker.
