An Inconvenient Truth
The movie I saw was An Inconvenient Truth directed by Davis Guggenheim and narrated by former Vice President Al Gore. When I found out that this was Al Gore’s movie that everyone had made a big fuss about, I had the misconception that it was going to be boring. Al Gore has always seemed like a robot in terms of personality and I thought that this was a way to improve his public perception by using a new media. In addition, I thought that this movie was more propaganda to launch another run at the presidency. I was wrong. The movie captured my attention and I’m glad it was assigned for otherwise I may have never seen it.
An Inconvenient Truth was a documentary that focused in on the drastic climate changes in the world in recent years. The movie is about Al Gore giving a presentation to an audience and using several scientific provided films, Power Point Presentation slides, charts, graphs and animations. The presentation slides and films show how some of the glaciers and mountain tops which were once covered in iced and snow are melting. The bottoms of these mountains that were once dry landscapes are becoming lakes. The problem is with the melting of the icecaps in the south and north poles. The melting of the caps is supposed to raise the water sea level. A raise in water sea level puts in danger cities such as New York and other low lying cities of being under water. More important, the change in temperature is creating stronger storms such as Katrina. The movie showed a clip on the destruction Katrina caused. The message of this clip is that the heavy use of materials that produce carbon dioxide is producing drastic changes in the weather patterns.
The film was also about solutions. The former vice president does very well in presenting his argument. He lacked charisma during his run at the presidency, but in this movie he is very likeable and charming. In the movie Gore talked a little bit about why he is committed to this cause.
