Airasia : the Sky's the Limit
What Steps Do you need to Achieve to Realize Your Career Goal?
How can this course help you to achieve it?
Growing up I have always wanted to become an Attorney-At-Law, well time and things change, and I have been exposed to other career options. Becoming an Attorney-At-Law was not meant to be but still I had a burning desire and passion inside me to become a trained professional, so I thought I heard the kitchen calling, I could almost hear sounds of pots and pans cluttering, I could see spatula moving against thickly covered sides of bowls and a beautiful sight and sound it was. Cooking and baking I thought was my calling, my God given passion, I could feel it, even taste it. Whilst in high school, I chose Food and Nutrition as my area of specialisation at Clan Carthy High School, over a two period 2000 -2001.
My chances finally came when I was offered a job in the Culinary field at Jade Garden Restaurant then at Versair Inflight Service, however, that opportunity never lasted long, so after losing my job I went to Excelsior Community College. Losing my job did not kill my dream to become a Food and Beverage Manager or a Culinary Manager, better known as Executive Chef. In my quest to start the road to greatness I went to Excelsior Community College, where I grasp the second chance of gaining those subjects that I did not acquire in high school. I was successful in acquiring some of them, then went onto pursue Computer Studies, to this day I am yet to complete that course. I guess it was not meant to be because it was not my passion; it was not my calling and certainly not my love. I was advised by friends and a lecturer to go after my passion. I even got a scholarship in 2007, to attend Florida Culinary Institution in West Palm Beach in the United States of America, but due circumstances beyond my control that opportunity came and went like yesterday’s news.
In spite of that missed opportunity my dream to become the best chef in the world, still lives on. Currently I am working in the Ministry of Education in the School Feeding Programme Unit as a Records Officer for the pass five (5) years, but there is a hunger for my passion. And that passion is not in record keeping but rather in the kitchen, the sweet sounds of pots and pans still calls my name, how I long to hear the sound a hot grill hissing up meeting a cold hamburger….I can just see it, I can feel it I just only now wish I could touch it.
The steps I have taken to achieve and realize my career
Presently I am enrolled at Northern Caribbean University where I am reading for a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management Studies with emphasises on Human Resource Management. The task ahead is great, hard work is required, drive and passion is needed. There is very little room for talent, but that degree is only but a ladder to my dream, because upon completion I will be applying to Heart Trust NTA, where I will pursue a certificate in Culinary Arts. This move I strongly feel will enable me to be accepted in any of the world’s finest culinary school.
In addition to reading for the Bachelors of Science Degree I am presently doing a certificate course in Supervisory Management at Northern Caribbean University. This course will equip me with the necessary leadership skills that is needed for growth and success. The lessons learned I can be applied to real life, real life situations and in my personal and professional life. I am grateful for this course already I can see changes in my life, as it pertains to how I operate, my whole decorum has changed, my tone in speaking to others has soften. My human relation skills have improved.
There are times when the work becomes burdensome and seems unbearable, I want to give up but when I hear the sounds of sweet music, of pots and pans emitting from my imagination I seems to find the drive to press on. The strength to go on unleashes. In this course Supervisory Management, I am being prepared for a promotion and this promotion comes with many difficult tasks, and will require, the right skills, mainly in the area of Human Relations. In having the requisite skills I will be guided how to handle specific situations when encountered.
I know I will complete my degree and this course in Supervisory Management by the help of God who is the head of my life in everything I do, even when I don’t believe in me this man name Jesus believes in me and that I can accomplish my dream.

My true passion in life has always been cooking. Being born to a father who had an unconditional love for his family and an affinity for cooking made me feel that being in the kitchen was where I always wanted to be. I always admired my father’s love and commitment not only to us but to his craft and even though he was a carpenter by trade; deep down inside he was a chef at heart. He always took the time to explain the “who, what, where and why” of what he was preparing even though he was not formally trained or educated in this art. He always had a story that directly related to the dish he was preparing that would captivate me and immerse me into every single subtlety of its preparation.…

As a child, if someone told me that my first job would be in the food service, I would accuse them of lying. If they told me I would absolutely love it? Impossible, I’d say. It will never happen. I had no idea what I wanted to do as a senior in high school. I knew that I wanted to travel the world and bake for a living. I decided against culinary school at that moment as I could always go to culinary school after I receive my bachelor degree. I fell in love with cooking and baking during the last two years of high school. I still enjoy making a mess in the kitchen, which is one of the few constant things that I knew about myself before I started college.…

I have a clear vision of my career goals, and the culinary arts program comprises exactly the skills and tools I need to succeed. Because I am determined and focused, I do not need anything more than the training and education the Art Institutes will provide. A commitment to a full-time four year, or even a part-time eight year degree program does not suit my personal or professional needs for several reasons. First, because I know exactly how I want to apply my new skills, I do not need any extraneous courses. The Art Institute program perfectly reflects my own pragmatism and professional sensibility because it is focused and directly related to my goals. A traditional degree doesn’t offer direct, practical career training, whereas the career education offered at the Art Institutes does. Second, I do not want to alter my lifestyle by engaging in a four-year program. As an older student, I am not interested in leaving the workforce to pursue a traditional college education. I want to incorporate this education into my life seamlessly and smoothly. The Culinary Arts program will allow me to express myself creatively and professionally in the field of my choice. This program offers practical education and training that I can immediately apply to the workplace, preferably as a sous-chef in a fine dining restaurant. I am confident I have the energy, stamina, and dedication to be a positive addition to the Art Institute.…

Like many, I worked my way through college, my parents encouraged, or one might say mandated, a college education for all of their children. I was the oldest of three and the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college. I worked by my father’s side in the restaurant from the time I was nine years old, and knew that life of restaurateur was not for me. The thought of another year or two working in the “store” and going to graduate school was not my…

Throughout my childhood, many of my relatives asked me the usual question they ask around, “So what are you going to do when you grow up?” During my childhood, the answer that came without thinking quickly and with confidence: was “A chef” I don’t really know when I wanted to become a chef, but, suddenly there it was. However, many people portend me that a chef would be doctrinaire for me because I was an oblivious person. I wasn’t trenchant when they tried to teach me on how to make different types of food. These words didn’t upset me they were an inverse of what they said, it motivated me to concentrate on what they were erudite me. I took some cooking classes in high school and getting help if needed.…

I would have never expected how working in a food kitchen could teach me so much about the world around me. How easily his mood was effected by a deed I found so simple moved me.
