As the years go on since the AFL’s inaugural season started, technology, production of drugs and consumption of alcohol have become widely used in the sporting industry. This does not bode well for young sports players who look up to the professional sportsmen and sportswomen. Most people look towards the AFL when they hear about a player consuming performance enhancing drugs before a game. On the other hand, AFL players are a good influence on young sports players as they care about their health and try to keep it in shape, this shows the passion they have for doing what they love. Secondly, AFL players and ambassadors are frequent helpers and visitors to various charities across Australia and the rest of the world. Finally, recently
and in the past, many players have been brought up from a tough background, whether it is from them being poor or being repeatedly seen at a police station so to speak. This shows that never give up lifestyle that will guide a young sportsman or sportswoman to chase their dream of becoming a superstar.
In today’s typical game of AFL, it is important for a professional player to be really fit, and all AFL players meet their own expectations of being fit and looking after their body. To some people or critics, they believe AFL players do not look after their health and wellbeing, by taking performance enhancing drugs and having a wild night out on the weekend. In saying that, to be allowed to play a game of football, the players have to be fit as well as being in good form of course. This adds extra reasons why an AFL player will care about their body and health. In a recent survey done by secondary school students on AFL health care, and by surveying local football players in the SANFL, they found that 95% of the players they interviewed are intensely concerned and monitor their definition of their body and the state it is in.
