October 17, 2012 The Advantages of an Accounting Major ? Picking a major for college is an important decision, one that should not be hurried. This huge decision decides you career, salary, and ultimately carves the path for the majority of your life. It is important that you pick a field that you can see yourself working in for the rest of your life. You are laying down the foundation for establishing the initial directions of your young adult life. Do you have a love numbers? Do you enjoy analyzing numbers, facts, and figures? If so, you might want to consider pursuing a career as an accountant. Accounting is the language of business. I chose accounting for several reasons. I was attracted to the job security the career comes with, the salary, and also the knowledge of how a business operates financially. Accountants are always in demand; there are plenty fields with in the accounting career to choose from. This means that there are a lot of opportunities for a career as an accountant and you will also have a lot of career choices. Every business in every industry needs an accountant. For example, there are plenty of fields in the accounting department such as auditing, bookkeeping, and taxes. Majoring in accounting gives you a good platform to become a certified public accountant (CPA), which can give endless range of opportunities to be successful. In addition to making it possible for you to spend your days working with numbers, there are many other reasons why you might want to become an accountant. ? One of the benefits to pursuing a career in accounting is the fact that you can get started in an accounting career after earning just a bachelors degree. In some cases you can begin working in the field after only completed two years of formal training. Earning a bachelors degree of science in Accounting offers students the opportunity to study and gain knowledge in accounting,
