CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

The Mangosteen fruit is visible already to some areas in the country, but very few people know the taste or its limited to a certain class of people. So the study focus on creating a product out of this fruit, why not an ice cream?
Everybody eats ice cream, children and adults enjoy eating ice cream, but they are used to the traditional flavors like chocolate, vanilla, ube, mango etc. Why
Mangosteen? The study shows that it only grows in Davao region, by making this fruit into an ice cream will probably make it visible in the market, by doing so it will become popular and people will start accepting this as one of their staple fruit and further results that they will try to taste the ice cream. It is a fact that it is only grown in Mindanao, this study will try to produce more Mangosteen to other regions in the country so that the acceptability will increase. The more
Mangosteen people see in the market and streets will help boost the popularity and eventually much easier for the consumers to accept the taste. The ice cream is only mixed with fresh coconut milk and white sugar; it is mixed manually using the freeze and beat system, meaning freezing the mixture for 30 minutes then beat it manually using the system for about 2-3 hours until the mixture is smooth and then place it in a plastic or tin container and freeze overnight. As for testing, some of the respondents have already positive comments but count also the negative comments, and for this study to be successful the support of big companies like Magnolia, Selecta etc. will be a great help to promote the acceptability of ice cream to the people. In order to attain the goals of this study there are tasks to be completed, like producing the fruit all over the country, the visibility of the product.
