Working with parents and carers EYMP1: 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3
Explain what is meant by partnership model of working with careers: A partnership model works around the theory of collaboration, coming together with understanding and effectives ways of communicating. It's a way that helps to recognise how the very best outcomes can happen for children when their care, development and learning provision ie. a setting, a home, individuals and groups/family all work cooperatively.
Give one example and then evaluate how your work in the setting reflects the need to work in partnership with parents or careers Cypop 1:5.3: Learning journeys are given to parents every six weeks, it gives the parents an in-depth account of the child’s, work, activity’s, development stage and interests, it shows pictures and examples of work. This reflects the partnership with parents.
What reasons might parents and carers have for not working in partnership with the early years setting: There could be a range of reasons why parents and carers have for not working in partnership with the early years setting such as; fear of communicating, a lack of time due to a job, personal reason e.g. bereavement or divorce, knowing the teacher outside of school.
How might these barriers to participate be overcome: These barriers could be overcome by positive communication- a parent to teacher conference, gain there confidence and trust by spending time with them, make time for working parents, time that suits them- home visits, meet their additional needs.
Some parents may react negatively to partnership opportunities. What strategies could you use to encourage and support them In this area? It’s important to understand that not all parents wish to take part with working in partnership and some parents may react in a negative manner but by not putting any pressure on them it may result in them having a more positive attitude.     It’s important to understand that not all parents wish to take part with in partnership opportunities and some parents may react in a negative way, however by not putting any pressure on them it may result in them having a more positive attitude.     The partnership between parents and carers responsibility for children’s education and development has only been recognised as important in the last forty years in this country. Before then children had no induction into school and parents were not invited in unless there was a problem or it was parents evening. Home and School were seen as two different entities and it hadn’t become apparent how much they could gain from each other.     There are lots of reasons why it is beneficial for practitioners to be working in partnership with parents, guardians and careers and other companies and one of these reasons is that it helps with meeting the care needs of the children. By working in partnership it also means that better outcomes for the children will be delivered because by passing on information about the child’s day to their parent/careers will let them know what they have been up to, what they like to eat and play with and give them chance to ask their key worker about any concerns they have or if they want any advice on anything for example when it comes to potty training they may want advice on that and by the key worker and the parent/career working in partnership together they can plan and achieve the best way possible for that child. By working in partnership with parents and careers is that you can get them to fill out an ‘all about me’ form for their child when starting at the nursery so that you can get to know that child as an individual, get to know their likes and dislikes, any allergies they have, any dietary requirements and what they enjoy doing. Not only will this mean that all that child’s needs, requirements and preference be met to the best that they can be but also will help when the child is going through a transition to either a new home, new school ect or when they are going through an unplanned transition or significant event.
