Organization of your time, your schedule and your responsibilities is essential to making your time in college count. You should know exactly where you have to be, when you are supposed to be there and how you will get there. If you are not organized, you will soon be confused and late with assignments.…
I read the article “10 Things Middle Schoolers Think you Should Know” by Rachel Vail. There are a few connections that I made. One connection that I made was when she wrote,”I like it when you make use get up and move, it makes it fun and easy to remember”. I relate to that because I most enjoy class activities. Also, it helps me remember the assignment. When we do school activities it helps me understand and not be confused when the test comes. For example, In my teacher’s class when made posters to help us remember the math formula, I extremely agree with her on this statement…
Students who work hard in school are more likely to complete high school and college and more likely to get jobs as adults.Staying organized will help you do better in school.Doing an a little bit of homework every night helps you feel more in control of your studies.Cleaning out backpack every week is a good idea because you'll be able to take care of important forms before they get lost.I personally need to work on studying for tests and assignments. Students who do these things are more likely to succeed in school…
As the principal of James S. Russell Middle School, my philosophy is simple. I believe that if we invest in our students and expand upon their previous knowledge, we can explore uncharted territory. By “thinking outside of the box" and striving to teach the whole child, we are destined to intersect with success. My belief is that if I continue to successfully motivate the RMS student, faculty, and staff to do their very best and extend their personal limits, the success for our division will be exhibited…
Middle School. My first steps into the “North Building” and I was terrified. There was moisture in the air and the carpets were moist from being freshly shampooed. It almost smelled like a new house, even though that building was as old as Abraham Lincoln if he were still alive.…
Studies say that “Waking up before 8:30 is bad for kids”. Middle School start time should start later because sleep affects the students attitudes, grades, and health. Middle School start time should start later because sleep affects kids attitudes. Kids can get forgetful and will not be able to remember everything if they do not get enough sleep. Being tired can get kids moody and make them mad at anything. The kids can even act weird or do weird things if they do not have enough sleep. However, attitude is not the only thing that is affected if a kid does not get enough sleep, grades can be affected too.…
I’ve always had lofty, perhaps unrealistic. In middle school, I naively assumed that I would be in top 12% of my class, by simply making A’s. I tried my hardest in every classes, but still wasn’t enough. I never reached my goal of being in top 12%, as a result my self-esteem plummeted. I started high school with high hopes once again. Perhaps even more naively, I pursued the goal of being ranked number one. I was too young to realize the concept of “realistic” goals. My biggest obstacle was my state of mind. I brought my self-down. I told myself the only way to be the best is to be better than everyone else. Setting such a high goal did help me in the end. After the second semester of freshman year, I received my rank. I was ranked number 10;…
Many students claim that middle school is exceedingly straightforward and easy, whereas others claim that middle school is complex and difficult. For those who succeed in school and claim school is easy say that because they work diligently. It’s not because they are naturally talented. The students who say middle school is difficult and flounder in their studies say school is difficult because they don’t work assiduously and they don’t have perseverance. In fact, there are several kids at school who are talented fail their classes. This is because they don’t have grit and they are also often too lazy to do their work. In my own case, I am considered as one of the naturally talented people. Many of my peers think that I receive good grades because I am talented. However, I know this is not the case. In reality, I have been recieving good grades because I have been working diligently. Most homework assignments in middle school require hard work, critical thinking, and perseverance(which means no procrastinating). There are also many conundrums and…
Being trapped in the state of fear and lack of self-confidence caused me to struggle socially and mentally, but soon I realized how much I have grown as a person. Therefore, I am no longer afraid of starting new and taking a step forward, all thanks to my experience at my middle school MSA (Magnolia Science Academy).…
Think about it, 2 out of 3 middle school students get less than 7 hours of sleep according to www.startschoollater.net. Middle school start times should start later because lower ability students gain the most knowledge, less students will fall asleep in class, and students will be safer, healthier, and have a better academic performance. Middle school start times should start later than they do now because of all the positive benefits for students.…
(More dramatic beginning) Choking and laughing through the cigarette smoke as I sit around the smoking area listening to the seniors tell their crazy drunken stories and cat call at the numerous ladies. This is the dream for any freshmen, but not what I expected when I was thrust into Younglife weekend camp January of my freshmen year.…
One has to approach school as an added duty in one’s life. I must add an extra responsibility to my daily chores and activities. I am venturing into an activity I have not done any schooling for over 30 plus years now. School is something I must learn all over again. This changes our everyday routines to a point that we all must learn to work well with this new education. I am glad that in the past I had learned great tools to work with while working on these new responsibilities. Making it great while I was getting my A.S. degree in Florida Tech College out of Orlando, FL. Back then everything was paper and pencil or pen. Now I see an all new era of schooling and especially online. I force myself to get things done early, just like I do when I need to be somewhere for an appointment. I arrive much earlier than requested so I have time to sit and plan what will be going on at this appointment. I turn that into the same here with my online class. I don't like to be late for anything even dinner at home. Work on my college activities and required assignments take on the same aspect that I apply to my personal life. Both must be taken on with kid gloves. But as long as I keep in mind the goals created for school and stick to them I should have no trouble working out any obstacles that come my…
There have been middle schools in the United States since the 1950s and 1960s. Although the grade levels are different between communities (5–8 or 6–8), middle schools have one thing in common: they do not work. Not only do students experience social difficulties, but their achievement levels decrease. Middle schools should be abandoned because they simply do not work.…
Throughout history the U.S school systems have changed quite a bit. During the 1900s to the 1960s the U.S school system was organized in different categories. Such as, some schools within the U. S were called junior high which was like a mini-version of high school. While other schools across the nation were more like a middle school approach. Nonetheless, a man named William Alexander had a enough and started the middle school movement, he realized along with other educators the need and importance to having a one system approach. For example, by having the one school system approach it open the reality of the truth behind junior high schools. Even though they helped prepare adolescents for high school without putting them in the same building with older teenagers it still delayed developments. While during the 1960s middle school supports argued that sixth-grade students benefitted from being separated from elementary students because it sped up their academic progress.…
I am a hopeless procrastinator. I don’t start homework until its due, if at all. That used to be okay when I was in high school. I was able to work, go to school, participate in a plethora of extra-curricular activities, and date, all while maintaining an above 3.0 GPA. It's just a really bad habit that I've never actually taken the time to fix. When I was in high school I loved succeeding, but I never had to really work for it. It just came to me naturally. I've gotten to college and while none of the material is really complicated to me I just don't have the interest for it. I have terrible time management skills. I don’t keep up with important dates and the dates I do remember I put off until the last minute.…
