#Sisleystrong was a fundraiser for one of my best friends, Morgan Sisley. She had a very rare type of ovarian cancer. When she was in the hospital almost every day, and instead of dreading it, she always had a smile on her face. She knew that smiling would make the others around her become a little less stressed and hang onto the little hope that she can fight this and come out stronger…

However, after digging a bit deeper into the website, I learned that portions of all the money spent on the merchandise goes to the production of the products (of course), other charities supporting the same cause, funding for events spreading the word about the organization, and treatment for the patients that need help. I also learned that this is their way of raising money, due to the fact that when To Write Love On Her Arms was first founded in 2006, profits from t-shirts are how they funded the first treatment of the first patient. I think that by adding this information somewhere more prominent rather than hidden away in the 'Frequently Asked Questions' section of their website could really help in the merchandise sales; thus, providing more treatments for more patients, donations to charities just like them, and being able to get out and spread the word to people around the globe that maybe don't know of all the good To Write Love On Her Arms has done. When promoting the merchandise on social media, maybe they could throw in where all the money is going, instead of just announcing that a shirt now comes in black and…

After my attendance I knew this was an event that I want to continue take part in. During my tenure at Broward College, I participated as a group member on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society team. We were responsible for informing attendees about the various cancers, causes and potential treatments. Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising event done by the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer. I took part in the Luminaria Ceremony which usually takes place after dark where candles are lit inside a personalized bag and placed around a track. The bags represent glowing tributes to individuals who have been affected by cancer. I interacted with survivors and individuals that are still battling cancer for approximately six hours. I wished I could have stayed overnight but never-the-less the time spent with them was…

It was a cold raining Saturday in October. Driving by all you can see is pink. Pink everything; Pink hair, pink shoes, pink socks, pink on people’s faces, pink on dogs. Everywhere you look you saw pink. You have to get there early if you want a good parking space. We got there about 8:30 the event didn’t start until 9. When you first get there you don’t know what to expect. At first there was not a lot of people there, I don’t know if it was because we were early or if it was because of the rain. But once it started to slow down on the rain more and more people started to come. When you walk in you walk through the arch of pink and white balloons. You see all the sponsors’ tables all around. They are there to give you information and for you to also buy things that are related to the cause, all the money goes right back to the society.…
