Abstract
This paper will explain the importance of the four business functions which are planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. Planning is the process of creating the business vision; Organizing is arranging the internal structure of the organization. Directing is leading the organization through proper leadership and motivation. These principles are a great model for ensuring success in the organization.

The purpose of the management principle is to have a guideline and a clear direction to achieve a successful outcome. Management entails a plethora of task. To assist managers in achieving their goals there are four basic functions of management. These basic functions help to run an organization smoothly. The four basic functions of management are to plan, organize, direct, and control.
Planning is the first function of management. It is the foundation that all the areas of management should be built. Planning is the process of creating the business vision, mission and objectives and how it will be accomplished, the next course of action is to determine the company 's goals and objectives and implement them (Rane, 2007). Planning can help avoid mistakes and recognize hidden opportunities. There are many factors that affect the planning process both internal and external. These factors play a major role in the course a company will take in order to obtain its goal. Though planning is not the win all be all when it comes to management it is a vital step needed for success. It is a step that needs to be repeated in order for the business to stay successful.
Secondly, there is organizing which is the second function of management. Management must organize all its resources in order to implement the course of action it determined in the planning process (Rane, 2007). Management being able to organize is very important; their
