Where I live is quite a challenge. Every day people here are getting shot, killed, or rushed to the hospital due to something horrible happening, and it is difficult to do anything without an adult with you because they fear that we may get hurt as well. Other challenges are how timid I can be. With my friends, I am an outgoing person, but when it comes to anything else, I'm very bashful. Doing day to day things can be difficult, suppose I'm in a store and someone is in my way, usually I go a different route than say anything to them. When I'm with my mom, everything is different. Usually she tells them that we need to get through, or she makes me do it because she knows how much I don't like doing it, and she wants me to get over that. My mother is one of the main places I get my strength from. If I wanted to do something, my mom makes me do it. Usually, my mother helps me do anything that I need, such as doing homework or even if I need a poster, she comes with me to the store to make sure I get the one I need. While I have my mother, Melba had many more sources of strength than I do. Melba had many people and things on her side. I do have more that I will not mention, but my biggest source of strength is definitely my…

An old black and white photograph, of what looks to be a town or community nestled in a valley of mountains, is weathered and damaged. In the photograph, over a dozen buildings are scattered across a small piece of land; what looks to be the equivalent of about four blocks in today’s terms. A railroad runs through the middle of the town, disappearing into the mountains beyond. The land is bare. There are no trees on this land aside from the ones outlining the town. The buildings are cabin like and made of wood. There are a few barns and some bigger buildings that could have been trading posts or a type of storage building. Two of the buildings at the bottom of the photograph look the same. They have one glass pane window on one side, which can help you to imagine how small these are. Both houses are fenced in. They also have porches and chimneys.…

Those that were part of this civilization were called the “Maya”. The Maya people lived in the eastern and southern areas of what we know today such as Mexico. They lived in regions of Guatemala, sections of El Salvador, the Belize and western parts of Honduras. The Maya people had constructed tremendous, gigantic pyramids that were made of stones; they constructed beautiful, detailed temples, and even beautiful sculptures that had significant meanings to their civilization.
