1st Observation
The following ethnography field notes were taken at Lucille Roberts, a women’s only facility.

Data
Observations made during Feb 24th –Feb 28th:
I am already a member at Lucille Roberts so it was easy to integrate myself into the setting and make discreet observations without disturbing the other gym members. I go to the gym about 4 days a week so I was able to make several observations during this week.
This particular Lucille Roberts has 3 floors. The first floor is full of nothing but cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bikes. The lower level is a large open space where several different group classes are held such as cardio fusion, zumba, strictly step, and chic boxing. The top floor has even more cardio machines and a handful of other recently strength training machines. There are also 2 small weight racks are located in the back corner of the gym and do not go passed 30lbs.
On my 2nd day there I observed two females that were probably in their early 20s who I had seen sporadically in the past 3 months. These two girls were not over weight but did not look to be in shape either. They spent most of their time chatting about their personal lives, increasing the time they spent on some of the machines which seemed to annoy some of the other members. They used very little resistance and did not seem to be paying much attention to using proper technique. They were also frequently taking pictures of each other. At one point one of the girls said to the other, “Do you want to try out the weights?” The friend replied, “no, I don’t want to look like a man either.” Once Zumba was announced over the loudspeaker the two girls including most of the other members of the gym that were on the 2nd floor cleared out to the lower level to attend the class. This left me and a handful of other women spread out on this floor including another woman that I began to observe. The 2nd subject was a 34 year old female in very good shape that I

I am happy that are making progress since starting this class. You have made an important observation about the use of double and single quotation marks. I would like to add that single quotation marks have not been a part of my writing for a while; in fact, I am not sure I even remember when to use them. Do you have a quick reference to share?…

Confidence is a major aspect of fitness and health. When it comes to going to the gym, it can be a very daunting task for those who are slightly insecure about their weight and appearances, or those who are new to belonging to a gym. This is a driving factor behind the success of the classes they offer. It encourages people to bring along friends for not only support but to also train together and enjoy fitness a lot more. The classes are designed to be interactive and fun experiences where age, gender and fitness level is no issue.…

On the first floor are the basketball courts, racquetball courts, aerobics room, rock wall, and swimming pool. On the second floor there is a track that goes around the basketball courts, a large weight room with the cardio machines next to it, and then a free weights area with a few machines off to the side. The first floor tends to be occupied by groups of people. The first floor provides activates for teams or groups, such as a pick-up game of basketball. The aerobics room attracts mostly women with very few men attending the classes. The second floor tends to be more segregated and separated. The cardio machines are a free for all for both genders but the ellipticals are heavily occupied by women. The weights machines are where almost all of the men spend the majority of their time; very little you will find women working out amongst the men on the weight machines. The free weights off to the side are where women who want to use weights mostly go. It is secluded, if you might not know exactly what you are doing or are not in peak physical condition this area provides a more private setting with less traffic. The layout of the gym provides almost everyone with an area they can go where they feel most comfortable. People in great physical attention tend to be in the areas that are more open while people who are just starting to work out or work on their physical fitness tend to migrate to the areas that are more…

The setting that I chose to observe is a Sunday morning Methodist Church service that included a baptism. It is Sunday morning at 6am and the church is pretty crowded. The candidates that are awaiting baptism are lined up on the front pew of the church; and they are all dressed in white. The reverend is speaking at the front of the church and he is dressed in white as well. The candidates are of a mixed crowd consisting of men, woman, teens, boys and girls.…

Based on observing the “lifters” their work outs involve strength machines, weight lifting, some cardio, and express workout. They come into the gym when ever they have a chance, if they are not busy, usually in the morning, before work, lunch break or on their day off. This group has serious dedication on meeting their weekly goals, whether if its for muscle work or just exercising. When they come into the gym they greet few people and make their way to weight lifting.…

The culture of the gym is slowly coming together just after two days of observations. The gym is primarily a male dominant place to do, but in our college the only area that is completely dominant is the weight lifting area and that’s only during prime hours. Also on the note of personal space there is noticeably a tendency for both male and female to have a certain amount of space around them like a personal bubble.…

For my first observation I chose the Early Head Start Program in Omak. I was at the facility on February 14th from 8:30 to 10:30 A.M. The name of the head teacher and supervisor at the center is Jodi. On this morning I was specifically looking for evidence of the ten principals from the research of Magda Gerber as described in chapter one of our textbook. There were four adults to the eight toddlers in the center and all of them have had some training in early childhood development. The children were ages two and one half to three and a half years old. The following are some of the observations that I made during my time at the center.…

I find being observed really helpful. At first it is normal to feel nervous and anxious, but once you get pass this and really start teaching everything becomes natural. The best part of being observed is the feedback, sometimes you don’t see your lesson the way other people who are observing do and it really helps you to think about and reflect on what you could have done to improve it.…

The purpose of the assignment was to determine the ways in which the middle school worked to meet the needs of the unique middle school learners. The middle school I visited was very effective in meeting the needs of middle schoolers. The school has interdisplinary teams who worked together to create instruction and help to offer the best learning opportunities for their students. The teachers gave excellent and effective lessons that motivated students. The classrooms were also student centered and accounted for different learning styles in the classroom.…

There are several factors that make this gym so meaningful to me. From the music to the great people a main reason the gym carries deep meaning to me is that I get to train with my brothers everyday. Being in the gym I can just feel the amount of determination in the air. Looking around I can just see the looks on my brothers eyes having the will of steel as they train through the pain and sweat. Coming to this gym everyone there knows what goals they’re are trying to reach and when you are around such positive vibes nothing is unattainable. Everyone is goal oriented here which makes it possible to do the things you never thought you could ever do and reach new limits for yourself. There’s no better feeling than seeing each other grow, pushing each other, and developing getting closer to our goals using that stress from the world as gasoline to fuel our engines of success.…

Sixth grade is a wonderful year for students. The students have transitioned from the elementary school to the middle school. This transition can be both scary for the sixth grade teachers and their students. This week I had the opportunity to observe a fellow coworker teaching sixth graders social studies. To the least, I was impressed. This teacher really has things together. He is a second year teacher, and is familiar with the Charlotte Danielson’s framework. However, I do remember the framework frightening him last year. Yet, this year he is a more comfortable and engaging teacher.…
