1.
Solve S = 4v2 for v s = 4v²
√s = 2v
(√s)/2 = v

2.
Solve M = 2x + 3y for y.
-2x
m-2x=3y
/3y
(m-2x)/3=3

3.
Solve t = p+3r/6 for r.
/6
6t=p+3r
-p
6t-p=3r
/3
(6t-p)/3=r

4.
Solve V = π r2h for h.
/pir^2
H=v/πr^2

5.
Solve P = 2(l + w) for l. What are the missing values in the table?

P w l
14 2 5
22 8 3

6.
Create your own unique literal equation and solve for one of the variables. Show your work. Then, using complete sentences, explain how you solved for the variable you chose. (2 points) x + 2 = y

Next I am going to subtract 2 from both sides of problem x + 2 - 2 = y - 2

Now I'm going to simplify by combining like terms.

x = y - 2

7.
Using complete sentences, explain how solving a literal equation is similar to or different from simplifying an expression such as 6 - 2(52 + 7) ÷ 4. (2 points)
Simplifying a literal equation gives you the value of a variable in relation to the rest of the equation. Simplifying an expression that does not have a variable is just a matter of using PEMDAS
8.
Using complete sentences, explain what might happen if the order of operations was used to solve a literal equation. (1 point)

You would not be able to solve the equation. Because you would still have the variable. A lot of times you have to use addition or subtraction before you use multiplication or division, and if you did not you would in the end be stuck with a unfinished

    Many people may have heard of the quadratic formula, but are probably unfamiliar what it is or what it is used for. The actual quadratic formula is , and its purpose is to solve quadratic equations and can only be applied to a quadratic equation that is in the standard form of (ax2+ bx +c = 0).It is important to differentiate between a quadratic formula and a quadratic equation, where the quadratic formula is a tool, and the quadratic equation is specifically given to you for the purpose of solving it. When solving a quadratic equation, you are basically finding the roots of that specific equation. Those roots will tell you where the line on the graph touches or crosses the x – axis.…

    In order to simplify expressions, you must first begin with the distributive properties. You do this by removing the parentheses by applying multiplication across two or more terms within the parentheses. The next step would either be using the commutative property, or the associative property to combine like terms. Combining like terms in the equation is a step in breaking down the expression correctly. I will now demonstrate the use of real numbers in simplifying the three following expressions. I will show my mathematical steps on the left, while discussing the properties on the right.…

    In this assignment we were asked to solve three expressions using the properties of real numbers in order to do so. Each of the real number properties are essential in solving algebraic expressions. Although you may not need to use all of them in the same expression to solve you will need to use at least one. In this paper I will demonstrate the use of the properties and show the steps needed to solve each part of an expression.…

    The order of operations is a rule that always applies to mathematical problems. It includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as grouping of numbers (such as in parentheses and powers). It gives a definite order of how to do a problem involving multiple operations. Without these cut and dry rules that the order of operations spells out, you would potentially be able to look at an equation and find multiple ways to solve it, potentially all with different answers.…
