PART 1
1. The experiment isn’t adequate because there are multiple factors when there can only be one independent variable.
2. If Tyrone and Valerie both fly differently designed paper airplanes then Tyrone’s will fly farther because it has longer wings in comparison to Valerie’s wings. a. independent variable: length of wings b. dependent variables: type of paper, wind (if any), shape of plane, width of the actual plane, height the planes where thrown at 3. -gather materials -using the same type of paper fold accurately so the wings are different sizes however same shape - fly the planes inside at the same time so there aren’t any environmental factors - measure distance from the starting point to where the planes landed, repeat step 3 and 4 3 times -compare and analyze results….formulate a conclusion
PART 2
Purpose: Jenny and Caitlin are twin sisters with very busy schedules. They want to see if it is faster to drive home straight from the spinning class at the gym and shower or shower at the gym then drive home.
Research: From LA fitness (neighborhood gym) to the girls’ houses, taking the main road, it is 8 minutes without traffic and all green lights. However the traffic is usually heavy from 5:30-6:10pm and moderate from 6:10-7:00. Spinning class runs from 4:45-5:45. Jenny and Caitlin both take 15 minute showers.
Hypothesis: If Caitlin waits till she gets home to shower and goes straight there after spinning class then she will not be ready faster than Jenny who is showering at the gym and then heading home because she will have to sit in traffic.
Experiment: Caitlin and Jenny will test this hypothesis by timing themselves from the time they leave the spinning class till the time when they have dinner which is directly after their spinning class, shower and drive home. They will
